investors, employees, and the community as part of our business<br />
ethics; further, we have never checked or obstructed our employees’<br />
freedom of association.<br />
To protect human dignity and gender equality in employment and<br />
provide a working environment where employees are free of sexual<br />
harassment and gender bias, we have laid out our “Measures for<br />
the Prevention of Sexual Harassment, and Disciplinary Methods,”<br />
clearly stipulating complaint channels, operating procedures,<br />
and disciplinary rules, and have organized sexual harassment<br />
prevention training classes to help employees recognize and<br />
prevent sexual harassment. The Company received two sexual<br />
harassment complaints in <strong>2011</strong>, and they were investigated<br />
immediately and disciplinary action taken. No cases of racial<br />
discrimination have been reported.<br />

To recognize outstanding employees performance,<br />
strengthen morale, so that staff members will identify more<br />
closely with the company’s core values, in <strong>2011</strong> <strong>Acer</strong> Middle<br />
East screened outstanding employees for recognition<br />
based on innovative, fast, effective, value creating,<br />
customer-centric, caring, and ethical qualities. The awards<br />
ceremony was held in the Dubai office in August, with 40<br />
employees receiving 45 awards. Later on, the stories of<br />
their achievements were e-mailed to other employees for<br />
inspiration.<br />

Development<br />
The focus of our training was adjusted in line with <strong>Acer</strong>’s strategic<br />
repositioning in <strong>2011</strong> to give added emphasis to employee<br />
growth and strengthen core competence, thereby assuring the<br />
effective implementation of the Company’s strategies. Our training<br />
priorities in <strong>2011</strong> included the creation of value for customers<br />
through innovation, boosting of the efficiency of implementation<br />
by reinforcing process management, strengthening brand image<br />
by enhancing product quality, and moving from “push” to “pull” in<br />
marketing.<br />
The focal points of training are passed on through new-hire training,<br />
general training, professional training, managerial competence<br />
training, and online learning. To assure quality, all training is carried<br />
out in accordance with the “Management Procedures for Internal<br />
and External Training.” Training in the Taiwan area in <strong>2011</strong> included<br />
the offering of 186 training courses which attracted 4,865 personnel<br />
for a total of 19,574 person-hours of training. Outside of Taiwan,<br />
3,056 personnel undertook a total of 42,940 person-hours of<br />

Diversified Learning and Development<br />
Each employee can upgrade his or her professional competence<br />
through a diverse range of development paths. Internally, these<br />
paths include on-the-job training, job coaching, job transfers,<br />
lectures, online learning, and study groups. Externally, employees<br />
can participate in professional seminars as well as short-term<br />
training at prominent universities and training institutions. We<br />
have also formulated “Incentives for Professional Certification<br />
” to encourage employees to upgrade their skills and achieve<br />
professional certification by providing incentives and subsidies to<br />
cover the cost of professional certification.<br />
Australian Learning and Development<br />
Program<br />
<strong>Acer</strong> Australia recognizes that employees are key<br />
contributors to the achievement of business targets,<br />
and strongly supports the continuous development of<br />
employees. The company’s internal <strong>Acer</strong> Management<br />
Academy offers the following courses:<br />
• Basic course: Basic Leadership Skills<br />
Seven modules: Leading meetings, problem solving,<br />
effective delegation, disciplinary procedures, leading<br />
change, time management, and effective hiring.<br />
• Advanced course:<br />
Seven modules: Supervising outstanding performance,<br />
consultative management, team building, effective<br />
business communication, decision making, finance, and<br />
establishment of strategic relationships.<br />
