What a wonderful summer we have had, and<br />
I hope you have all taken advantage of the<br />
weather and been flying.<br />
The Scott’s Trophy was to be held on March<br />
17th, and with the club rooms decorated for<br />
St Patricks day, the drought was broken and<br />
the competition was cancelled.<br />
We are extending an invite to the Air Safari<br />
participants for lunch this coming Saturday<br />
23 rd to enjoy our hospitality. It would be<br />
great to see a good club turnout at the club<br />
to welcome visiting aircraft.<br />
Now we have a wonderful new indoor<br />
outdoor flow at the clubrooms, we have<br />
introduced summer barbeques. The first was<br />
on the Friday the 1 st of February and it was<br />
then decided to have them on a regular<br />
monthly basis. March the 1 st was our second<br />
barbeque and the news had spread far and<br />
wide and we had an international member<br />
attend. There was also a trophy on display,<br />
but alas not many local members were there<br />
to see it that night. The next night will be<br />
Friday the 5 th of April, put it in your diary<br />
now and come down and celebrate the last<br />
Friday of daylight savings.<br />
The AvKiwi seminar entitled “Get the Mental<br />
Picture” was held in New Plymouth on<br />

Monday the<br />
4th CLUB CAPTAIN’S CORNER<br />
of March<br />
with a good contingent of eight <strong>Hawera</strong><br />
members attending. We came away with a<br />
much greater appreciation of the term<br />
situational awareness and the importance of<br />
it to us as pilots.<br />
I hear through the grapevine that one of our<br />
members, (Who will remain anonymous ….<br />
Brendan Mulligan) got a ride in the rescue<br />
helicopter having broken his collar bone in a<br />
motorbike accident, it sounded like it was<br />
almost worth it. I hope Brendan recovers<br />
quickly so that he can return to flying with<br />
us.<br />
Last but not least I would like to extend the<br />
clubs congratulations to Nathan Busby and<br />
his partner on the birth of their first child. A<br />
budding new pilot for <strong>Hawera</strong> in 16 years<br />
time.<br />
That’s enough from me this month, catch up<br />
again next month with hopefully a<br />
contribution from our Instructor and our<br />
President to get their perspective on the<br />
club activities.<br />
