Student Scholarships This year the Scholarship Committee, led by Eric Fry (Anadarko) and Karen Krug (SNR Denton) recommended, and the Board approved, a record number of student scholarships. A total of 14 scholarships were awarded to deserving students from 8 different schools. Education is one of the founding principles of AIPN and I am extremely pleased to see AIPN support the education of our student members. After notifying the recipients of these awards, the committee received a number of touching thank you notes that made the awards all the more gratifying. Membership This month the AIPN reached a historic membership milestone when we exceeded 4100 members for the first time. Under the Thank you for your membership to AIPN. As an AIPN member you represent an elite group of professionals dedicated to career growth and development and are an important part of AIPN’s overall mission and success. Over the past year, you have helped to shape these milestones: expanded student outreach. Yet again we surpassed last year’s record with a total of 14 students receiving the AIPN Scholarship. And in 2012, another student club was formed at Southern Methodist University. AIPN expands its reach with events in new cities. Events were held in new cities: Vienna and Lima. A conference will also be held in Belgrade this October. Seminar Series on Model Contracts continues to grow. Last year’s first in the series have sparked four more to take place in 2012. Bridging the gap between NOCs and IOCs. 2012 was marked by continued efforts to bring together NOCs and IOCs . There has been a 32% increase this past year of NOC applicants. Registration is now open for the highly anticipated 2012 NOC/Government Entity Conference to be held in December in London. Membership reaches record number. In 2012, AIPN membership SEPTEMBER 2012 • 2 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE guidance of the Membership Committee currently led by Kimberly Reeder (BP), our membership has grown by approximately 60% over the past three years. The distribution of members has been changing as well. Although the US and Europe/Africa regions still represent about 60% of our membership, Asia and Australia Pacific have grown to now make up over 20% of membership. Recently, we have been focusing great attention toward growing our NOC membership, and these efforts are beginning to pay off with NOCs now representing over 6% of our roles. The impressive membership growth is a testament to the relevance and wide appeal of AIPN’s services and programs. NOC CONfereNCe By the time this message is published we will be well into the planning for AIPN’s inaugural NOC Conference to be held in London December 4 - 6. The conference chair, Chris Moyes (Moyes & Co.), along with his committee have put together an excellent program consisting of three days of interactive workshops and breakout groups with experienced faculty. These sessions are designed to help attendees to develop practical skills and knowledge around Host Government Instruments, Upstream Model Contracts and Oil & Gas Dispute Resolution for application to their day-to-day work. The conference has been well received so far, but it’s important that we continue to spread the word and recruit NOC attendees. Complete information can be found on the AIPN website, so please use it to promote the conference and encourage your NOC contacts to participate. We are hoping the NOC Conference can become another annual AIPN event, so initial success is critical. Your support towards making this happen will be greatly appreciated. Increased number of regional conferences. Since its inception, 2012 will mark the most number of regional conferences held within one year. Cities include Vienna, Belgrade and Bogota. Two model contracts published. The highly anticipated revised Joint Operating Agreement was published this year, as well as the LNG Master Sale and Purchase Agreement.
