Materials<br />
One package each of Tonga Treats 10" squares and 21 ⁄2" strips,<br />
in the <strong>Blueberry</strong> Pie colorway (Note: Each Treats package has<br />
two strips or two squares each of twenty different fabrics.)<br />
5/8 yard Tonga–B7790 Ink for double-fold binding<br />
2 yards XTonga–B7854 <strong>Blueberry</strong> for backing<br />
2 yards batting<br />
Note: Use the fabric color chart on the back page to determine<br />
fabric placement in the design. Each fabric has been assigned a<br />
number from 1 to 20 and corresponds to that number in the<br />
illustration on the facing page.<br />
Making the Blocks<br />
Four-<strong>Patch</strong> Blocks<br />
Make sixteen each of ten color combinations<br />
1. Find the fabric strips for colors 1 and 2. You will have two strips<br />
of each fabric. Stitch the long side of a fabric 1 strip to the long<br />
side of a fabric 2 strip. Repeat with the remaining pair of strips.<br />
Press toward the darker fabric.<br />
2. Cut sixteen units from each strip set, for a total of thirty-two<br />
units. (figure 2)<br />

3. Stitch together two units made in step 2 to make a four-patch<br />
block. Repeat to make a total of sixteen four-patch blocks. Press<br />
seam allowances to one side.<br />

4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 with strips in the following color<br />
combinations: 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14, 15/16,17/18, 19/20<br />
Half-Square Triangle Blocks<br />
Make sixteen each of ten color combinations<br />
5. You will have two 10" squares of each fabric. Locate and stack<br />
squares together in the following color combinations :<br />
5/9, 13/14, 15/17, 20/8, 1/7, 2/19, 3/4, 16/18, 6/10, 11/12<br />
6. Once you have paired up all the squares, you may<br />
stack one color combination on top of another, if<br />
you feel comfortable cutting that many pieces at<br />
one time. Now, cut each stack into four stacks of<br />
47 ⁄8" squares.<br />
7. Leave them stacked and cut each stack of 47 ⁄8"<br />
squares once diagonally from corner to corner to<br />
make two half-square triangles from each square.<br />

8. Leave the triangles<br />
stacked and place the two<br />
short sides of the triangle<br />
along the 41 ⁄2" lines of your<br />
ruler. Use a rotary cutter to<br />
cut off the “dog ears” at the<br />
edges of the ruler. (figure 5)<br />
9. Keeping the triangles in<br />
the color combinations<br />
specified in step 5, select<br />
two triangles to form a halfsquare<br />
triangle block. With<br />
right sides together, stitch along the long, bias side, being careful<br />
not to stretch as you sew. Press the seam allowance toward the<br />
darker fabric. Repeat with the remaining pairs of triangles.<br />
Quilt Top Assembly<br />
10. Refer to the Quilt Top Layout (figure 1) and the project photo<br />
and lay out the four-patch and half-square triangle blocks in rows.<br />
11. Stitch the blocks into rows. Press each row so that the seams<br />
oppose those in the rows above and below.<br />
12. Stitch the rows together to complete the quilt top.<br />
Press the seam allowances to one side.<br />
Finishing<br />
11. Layer the quilt top, batting and backing and quilt<br />
as desired.<br />
12. Cut eight 21 4½" line<br />

⁄4"-wide strips from the binding fabric.<br />
Stitch the binding strips together end to end using<br />
bias (45°) seams. Fold and press the resulting long strip in half<br />
lengthwise with wrong sides together. Stitch to the front of the<br />
quilt, matching raw edges and being careful to leave the triangle<br />
points at the edges of the quilt top intact.<br />
13. Hand-stitch the folded edge of the binding to the back of the<br />
quilt, mitering the corners.<br />
