Cutting<br />
All strips are cut across the width of fabric (wof).<br />
From fabric A, cut:<br />
• (5) 3⅞" x wof strips; crosscut into (48) 3⅞" squares.<br />
Cut each square once diagonally to yield (96) triangles.<br />
From fabric B, cut:<br />
• (3) 7¼" x wof strips; crosscut into (12) 7¼" strips. Cut<br />
each square twice diagonally to yield (48) triangles.<br />
• (3) 3⅞" x wof strips; crosscut into (24) 3⅞" squares.<br />
Cut each square once diagonally to yield (48) triangles.<br />
• (8) 3½" x wof strips; crosscut into (196) 1½" x 3½"<br />
rectangles<br />
• (37) 1½" x wof strips<br />
From fabric C, cut:<br />
• (3) 3⅞" x wof strips; crosscut into (24) 3⅞" squares.<br />
Cut each square once diagonally to yield (48) triangles.<br />

Making the Star Blocks<br />
1. Sew two fabric A triangle to the short sides of a 7¼"<br />
fabric B triangle to make a flying‐geese unit. Press<br />
the seam allowances toward the A triangles. Make<br />
48 flying‐geese units.<br />
2. Sew a 3⅞" fabric B triangle to a fabric C triangle to<br />
make a half‐square‐triangle unit. Press the seam<br />
allowances toward the fabric C triangle. Make 48<br />
half‐square‐triangle units.<br />
3. Lay out four flying‐geese units, four half‐square‐<br />
triangle units, and one fabric D square in a nine‐<br />
patch arrangement. Sew the pieces together in<br />
rows and then sew the rows together to complete a<br />
Star block. Using the fabric D, fabric E, fabric F, and<br />
fabric G squares; make a total of 12 Star blocks.<br />
Making the Sashing<br />
1. Sew 1½"‐wide fabric B strips to both long sides of a<br />
fabric H strip to make a strip set. Press the seam<br />
allowances toward the fabric H strip. Make 12 strip<br />
sets. From the strips sets, cut (31) 12½"‐wide<br />
sashing strips and (20) 1½"‐wide segments.<br />
2. Sew a fabric B rectangle to opposite sides of a<br />
1½"‐wide segments from step 1 to<br />
make a sashing block. Press the seam<br />
allowances toward the B rectangles.<br />
Make 20 sashing blocks.<br />
Making the Pieced Border<br />
1. Sew 1½"‐wide fabric B strips to both long sides of a<br />
fabric C strip to make a strip set. Press the seam<br />
allowances toward the fabric C strip. Make 3 strip<br />
sets. From the strips sets, cut (78) 1½"‐wide<br />
segments.<br />
2. Sew a fabric B rectangle to opposite<br />
sides of a segment from step 1 to<br />
make a border block. Press the seam<br />
allowances toward the B rectangles. Make 78<br />
border blocks.<br />
3. Sew 21 blocks together to make a side border strip.<br />
Make two side border strips.<br />
4. Sew 18 blocks together to make a top border strip.<br />
Repeat to make a bottom border strip.<br />
Assembling the Quilt Top<br />
1. Sew three Star blocks and four 12½" sashing strips<br />
together to make a block row. Press the seam<br />
allowances toward the sashing strips. Make four<br />
block rows.<br />
2. Sew four sashing blocks and three sashing strips<br />
together to make a sashing row. Press the seam<br />
allowances toward the sashing strips. Make five<br />
sashing rows.<br />
3. Sew the block rows and the sashing rows together<br />
as shown in the photo; press.<br />
4. Sew the side pieced borders and then the top and<br />
bottom borders to the <strong>quilt</strong> top and press.<br />
5. Sew the remaining fabric B strips together end to<br />
end. Measure the length of the <strong>quilt</strong> top. Cut two<br />
strips to this length and sew them to the sides of<br />
the <strong>quilt</strong> top. Measure the width of the <strong>quilt</strong> top,<br />
including the just‐added borders. Cut two strips to<br />
this length and sew them to the top and bottom of<br />
the <strong>quilt</strong> top. Press all seam allowances toward the<br />
borders.<br />
6. In the same manner, sew 1½"‐wide fabric I strips<br />
together end to end. Measure, cut, and sew the<br />
strips to the <strong>quilt</strong> top.<br />
7. Sew the fabric J strips together end to end.<br />
Measure the length and width of the <strong>quilt</strong> top. Cut<br />
two strips to the length measurement and sew<br />
them to the sides of the <strong>quilt</strong> top.<br />

8. Cut two strips to the width measurement. Sew a<br />
fabric I square to each end of each strip. Sew the<br />
strips to the top and bottom of the <strong>quilt</strong> top.<br />
9. Layer the <strong>quilt</strong> top with batting and backing; baste.<br />
Quilt as desired. Using the 2¼"‐wide binding strips,<br />
make and attach binding.<br />
