PT1943-8 White with <strong>red</strong> script (pinwheel blocks) ½ yd<br />

PT1945-88 Red vine (pinwheel blocks) ½ yd<br />

PT1941-88 Red fl oral (appliqué blocks) ½ yd<br />

PT1939-88 Red Stripe (inner border) ½ yd<br />

PT1948-8 Red bunnies on white (outer border) ¾ yd<br />

PT1946-8 Red plaid (binding) ½ yd<br />

PT1947-88 Red bunny motif (backing) 3 ¼ yd<br />

Cutting Requirements for Pinwheel Blocks<br />

From cream background fabric<br />

Cut 4 strips 2 ½ x wof, subcut into (52) 2 ½” squares<br />

Cut 2 strips 2 ⅞”x wof, subcut into (26) 2 ⅞” squares<br />

From <strong>red</strong> vine<br />

Cut 4 strips 2 ⅞ in x wof, subcut into (52) 2 ⅞” squares<br />

From white with <strong>red</strong> script<br />

Cut 4 strips 2 ½” x wof, subcut into (52) 2 ½” squares<br />

Cut 2 strips 2 ⅞” x wof, subcut into (26) 2 ⅞” Squares<br />

Pinwheel Block Construction<br />

Directions are for one block. You will need to make 13 blocks.<br />

Pair up (2) 2 ⅞”cream background squares with (2) 2 ⅞“ <strong>red</strong> vine squares. With right sides together, draw<br />

a line corner to corner on the cream squares. Stitch a scant ¼” from each side of the center line. Cut apart<br />

on the line and press toward the <strong>red</strong> vine fabric. This will yield 4 half-square triangles.<br />

Pair up (2) 2 ⅞” <strong>red</strong> vine squares with (2) 2 ⅞” <strong>red</strong> script squares. Do the same as in step 1. Press toward<br />

the <strong>red</strong> vine fabric.<br />

Sew the (4) <strong>red</strong> vine/<strong>red</strong> script half-square triangles together to make the center pinwheel.<br />

Sew each of the (4) cream/<strong>red</strong> vine half-square triangles to a 2½” cream square. Be sure the cream<br />

half of the half-square triangle is adjacent to the cream square. Repeat with the <strong>red</strong> vine half-square<br />

triangles.<br />

Assemble the block as shown with a 2 ½” <strong>red</strong> script square in each corner.<br />

Appliqué and Embroidery Blocks<br />

Using large heart as your appliqué template, prepare 8 hearts using your favorite method<br />

of appliqué. Center heart on background squares and appliqué in place.<br />

Embroidery: All embroidery uses 2 strands of embroidery fl oss. Place the patt ern over<br />

a light box or bright window. Place fabric right side up on top of patt ern and trace<br />

embroidery lines with a “Mircron 01” permanent brown marker. . Cut 4 squares fusible<br />

interfacing 8 ½” x 8 ½”. Following manufactures instructions iron to wrong side of<br />

embroidery square. Embroider leaves with a lazy daisy stitch, berries with French knots, bunny eye with a tiny satin stitch.<br />

Back stitch or stem stitch remaining embroidery lines. Make 4 embroidery blocks.<br />

<strong>Quilt</strong> Assembly<br />

Assemble blocks in fi ve rows using quilt photo as a guide.<br />

Sew rows together, press seams in opposing directions.<br />

Sew inner border strips to each side of the quilt top. Sew on the top and bott om border strips. Press toward the borders.<br />

Sew outer border strips to each side of the quilt top. Sew on the top and bott om border strips. Press toward the borders.<br />

To fi nish, layer, baste and quilt. Bind the edges and you are fi nished!<br />

Cutting Requirements<br />

From cream fabric, cut 3 strips 8 ½” x wof. Cut into 12 squares<br />

8 ½” x 8 ½” for appliqué and embroidery blocks<br />

Inner Border (<strong>red</strong> stripe)<br />

Cut 5 strips 2 ½” x width of fabric; cut into 2 side inner borders<br />

2 ½” x 40 ½” and cut and piece into top and bott om inner<br />

borders 2 ½” x 44 ½”<br />

Outer Border (<strong>red</strong> bunnies on white)<br />

Cut 5 strips 5” x wof; cut and piece into 2 side borders 5” x 44<br />

½” and top and bott om borders 5” x 53 ½”<br />

Binding (<strong>red</strong> plaid)<br />

Cut 5 strips 2 ½” x width of fabric.
