Ferndale Schools is a supporter of Rainbow Run The Ferndale Public Schools is proud to be one of the supporters for this weekend’s Rainbow Run in downtown Ferndale. The Rainbow Run will take place Saturday, June 1 and is a 5k walk/run meant for everyone of all ages. It is spearheaded by the Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce and presented by Garden Fresh Gourmet and is meant to promote acceptance and diversity. Registration will begin at 8:45 a.m. and the run /walk start times are staggered by category, starting at 10:30 a.m. All proceeds from the event go to four area non-profit organizations: Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce, Ferndale Community Foundation, Affirmations, and Upstander, an anti-bullying program established by the Friendship Circle. Ferndale Schools Superintendent Gary Meier and Ferndale Career Center Director Pam Bellaver both serve on the Ferndale Chamber. [FEF] TOGA! TOGA! TOGA! The weather cooperated on Friday this week as the leaders of FMS and FHS fulfilled an obligation to the Ferndale Education Foundation (FEF) and wore Togas to school. The FEF held its Annual Dinner on March 15 and raised more than $20,000 for the teachers and students of Ferndale Public Schools. A live auction is part of the event, and this year the attire of the three school leaders was auctioned off for one day this school year. FHS art students repurpose parking meters for fundraiser FHS Students in Leslie Miller’s Design Class were among local designers who found creative uses for the outdated parking meters that once lined the streets of Downtown Ferndale. The repurposed meters will be on display and auctioned off during the upcoming 2nd Annual ARTWN fundraising party for public art in Downtown Ferndale on Friday, June 21. The event is presented by the Ferndale DDA and MotorCity Casino Hotel. The students who participated are: Kaitlin Clavier, Andrew Lisiscki, Alexander MacColl-Artrip, Nathan Rizzo, and David Wells. FHS Summer Academy begins June 24 Ferndale High School students will have an opportunity to recover lost credits or improve their grades this summer by enrolling in the 2013 Ferndale High School Summer Academy. The Summer School Academy is also geared to give high school students an opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge necessary for success. Classes begin on Monday, June 24 and the last day is July 23. FHS students may pre-register for summer classes with their counselors any time before the official registration which is June 19 for FHS students and June 20 for all students. All students must get their summer classes approved by their guidance counselor. All classes will be held at Coolidge Intermediate School, 2521 Bermuda. Students and their families must provide their own transportation. Tuition rates for In- District students are $125 for one class and $200 for two classes.
