naTIonal agrICulTural profICIenCY WInners announCeD Winners in the National Agricultural Proficiency Awards Pageant were announced on Friday, Oct. 21, at the national FFA convention. Awards were give in 47 categories. Agricultural communications — entrepreneurship/Placement Chelsea Keiser—Ohio Chelsea Keiser’ supervised agricultural experience (SAE) project included experiences in public speaking and informing audiences about important agricultural issues. She developed skills collecting facts, writing and reporting on agriculture topics. One of Chelsea’s accomplishments was serving as afternoon farm news broadcaster at a local radio station. She is a member of the Versailles FFA Chapter, and her advisor is Dena Wuebker. This award is sponsored by BI, The Business Improvement Company and Keystone Steel & Wire Company – Red Brand. Finalists Julia rose Cucarola Sterling FFA – Colo. adam Michael ludvik Belle Plaine FFA – Minn. Morgan Kay Honeycutt West Johnston FFA – N.C. Agricultural education—entrepreneurship/ Placement Camilla “Cayce” Kaytlin McDonald—Tennessee For Camilla “Cayce” Kaytlin McDonald, teaching youth about agriculture has always been an important part of her life. She has created interactive lesson plans and activities for elementary, middle school and high school students. Cayce has planned community events like petting zoos and agriculture days. She is a member of the Beech FFA Chapter, and her FFA advisor is Dale McDonald. This award is sponsored by James F. Lincoln Arc Welding Foundation and Tulsa Welding School. AgriculturAl proficiEncy winnErs continuEd 17 Believe Proceedings 2011 Agricultural Mechanics design and Fabrication—entrepreneurship/ Placement garrett Michael south—Georgia Garrett Michael South’s family operates a trailer manufacturing company for cattle, horses and flat-bed trailers. Garrett works hard to be a valuable part of the business. He has developed skills in iron work, forklift operation and working with the band saw and shear. He is a member of the Franklin County FFA Chapter, and his FFA advisors are Gary Minyard, Cale Watkins and Owen Thomason. This award is sponsored by Carry-On Trailer Corporation and RAM Trucks. Finalists Dominic agresti assali Turlock FFA – Calif. Cody Johnathon Hansen McCook Central FFA – S.D. Cruz Cooper niblett Decatur FFA – Texas Agricultural Mechanics energy systems—entrepreneurship/ Placement James porter—Georgia James Porter learned agricultural mechanics skills working for his family’s business. He gained experience learning to perform routine maintenance on the machinery. James developed higher level skills and is now a welder for the operation and fills customer orders. James is a member of the Echols County FFA Chapter. His FFA advisor is Hank Majeski. This award is sponsored by The Lincoln Electric Company and New Holland. Finalists: patricia Kay Justison Hillsboro FFA – Ill. austin Dylan potter Savannah FFA – Mo. Cody frankli pollard Decatur FFA – Texas Agricultural Mechanics repair and Maintenance—entrepreneurship austin potthast—Illinois Austin Potthast joined the Farm Heritage Museum and developed an interest in tractor restoration. He worked for the president of the museum and learned the restoration process. Today he owns Little Acres Tractor Restoration and has restored and painted 12 tractors. Austin is a member of the Greenville FFA Chapter. His
