brad laack—Wisconsin<br />

Brad Laack is employed at two local<br />

dairies as a night herdsman and as a<br />

weekend milker. His responsibilities<br />

include artificial insemination, health<br />

care, selecting sires, breeding and milking.<br />

He learned artificial insemination so<br />

he could also breed his own cows and<br />

slowly build his herd. Brad is a member<br />

of the Plymouth <strong>FFA</strong> Chapter, and his <strong>FFA</strong><br />

advisors are Don Mier, Marilyn Hahn and<br />

Walter Taylor. This award is sponsored by<br />

GEA Farm Technologies and Kuhn North<br />

Cody Thompson began his SAE by<br />

raking hay on his family’s farm operation.<br />

Today, he produces his own crops,<br />

manages his own beef cattle and raises<br />

Burley tobacco. He continues to develop<br />

his management and decision-making<br />

skills to improve his enterprises. Cody<br />

is a member of the Cumberland Gap<br />

<strong>FFA</strong> Chapter, and his advisors are Dan<br />

Pearman, Wade Breeding and Robert<br />

Pearman. This award is sponsored by CF<br />

Greg Owen Harris began his experience<br />

in crop production working with<br />

his family. He began his own enterprises<br />

of wheat, milo and soybeans. Greg<br />

accomplished his goals by learning about<br />

fertilizer ratios, seeding rates and the risk<br />

that goes along with a growing diversified<br />

operation. Today, he operates 250<br />

acres of his own. Greg is a member of<br />

the Chapman <strong>FFA</strong> Chapter, and his advisors<br />

are Walter Pitts and Trent Horn. This<br />

award is sponsored by CHS.<br />

Kurt parsons—California<br />

Kurt Parsons works for an operation<br />

that harvests nearly 15,000 acres of field<br />

crops each year. He has learned about<br />

the farming enterprises including tractor<br />

and harvester operation, planting and hay<br />

work. Kurt has also focused his efforts<br />

on marketing, customer acquisition and<br />

equipment design and fabrication. He is<br />

a member of the Porterville <strong>FFA</strong> Chapter.<br />

Kurt’s <strong>FFA</strong> advisors are Isaac Robles,<br />

Gabriel Ponce and Todd Coons. This<br />

award is sponsored by Crop Production<br />

Services and <strong>National</strong> Crop Insurance<br />

Joshua Joe Conaway—Oklahoma<br />

Joshua Joe Conaway started his lawn<br />

care business to save money for college.<br />

Through his experiences and what<br />

he learned in his agriculture classes,<br />

lawn care has developed into a passion.<br />

Joshua has expanded his business<br />

beyond mowing lawns and trimming<br />

hedges to include raising water pond<br />

plants, ground cover and pond goldfish.<br />

He is a member of the Ringwood <strong>FFA</strong><br />

Chapter, and his advisor is Will Bunt. This<br />

award is sponsored by Nationwide Insurance<br />

Foundation.<br />

Ashley Ceinwen Jones of the Bell County<br />

<strong>FFA</strong> Chapter raises lambs and horses.<br />

She owns one of the largest flocks of<br />

purebred Border Leicester sheep in the<br />

country. In addition, Ashley has four<br />

horses. She has learned about management,<br />

equipment and show ring<br />

etiquette. Ashley’s <strong>FFA</strong> advisors are Brian<br />

Prewitt and Tamara Miller. This award is<br />

sponsored by Tractor Supply Company<br />

and Wahl Clipper Corporation.<br />
