Profile of the organisation<br />
<strong>Fiat</strong> is a major industrial Group that has been active in the<br />
automotive field for over one hundred years. It designs,<br />
manufactures and sells automobiles, trucks, tractors,<br />
agricultural and construction machinery, engines and<br />
automotive components and production systems.<br />
The Group performs industrial and financial services activities<br />
in the automotive field through Companies located in 50<br />
countries, and is engaged in commercial activities with<br />
customers in over 190 countries. With 178 plants, it has more<br />
than 185,000 employees worldwide and operates 114 research<br />
and development centres on five continents that are staffed<br />
by about 12,900 highly qualified employees.<br />
Over the last several years, <strong>Fiat</strong> Group has stea<strong>di</strong>ly<br />
implemented an ambitious cost containment, industrial<br />
relaunch and transformation plan.<br />
During the year, <strong>Fiat</strong> started implementing the 2007-2010<br />
growth and margin expansion plan, which will transform<br />
the Group into a significant international industrial enterprise.<br />

<strong>Fiat</strong> Group Automobiles<br />
As a pioneer of the car industry, <strong>Fiat</strong> built its first car in 1899.<br />
Over 90 million cars and light commercial vehicles have been<br />
produced since then and many of its models have marked<br />
important milestones in motoring history. <strong>Fiat</strong> Group<br />
Automobiles designs, produces and sells automobiles under<br />
the <strong>Fiat</strong>, Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Abarth brands, and light<br />
commercial vehicles under the <strong>Fiat</strong> Professional brand.<br />
Each brand has a specific identity with defined, recognised<br />
characteristics, and employs <strong>di</strong>stinct commercial and marketing<br />
strategies. Its plants are located in Italy, Poland, Brazil and<br />
Argentina. Manufacturing is also carried out through either<br />
joint ventures or licensing agreements in France, Turkey, Egypt,<br />
South Africa, In<strong>di</strong>a, China, and Russia. In 2007 <strong>Fiat</strong> Group<br />
