Provincial Municipal Sewage Regulation - a regulation
under the Provincial EMA, that applies to all discharges
of domestic sewage except those regulated under the
Sewerage System Regulation (under the Public Health
Act) and those discharges from individual singlefamily
or duplex dwellings. The MSR provides clear
and effective requirements for local governments and
private sewage dischargers in order to protect public
health and the environment through authorizations
(with minimum standards and requirements) for
the treatment, reuse and discharge of domestic
sewage, wastewater or municipal liquid waste.
Regional Growth Strategy (adopted by Metro
Vancouver’s Board of Directors in July 2011) - aims
to guide development in the region over the next
three decades in a way that enhances the livability
of the region while contributing to the overall
sustainability of the region’s development.
Sediments - soil underwater on the bottom of
oceans, lakes or rivers consisting of geologic,
biologic and anthropologic material.
Substrate - an underlying layer, substance, object or
material upon which an organism grows or is attached.
Sustainability - as defi ned in the BIEAP
Memorandum of Understanding, means the point
at which economic, environmental and social/
cultural activities meet the needs of the present
generation without compromising the ability of
future generations to meet their own needs.
Wildlife Act (BC) - provincial legislation that
applies to conservation and management of
wildlife populations and habitat within their
borders, issuing licenses and permits for fi shing,
game hunting, and trapping, guidelines for safe
angling and trapping and outfi tting policies.
