The first recipient in the Medium Company category did a great job of meeting the requirements set in the application. This company assembled a cross functional team of employees from all areas of the company to establish a 5 year Wellness Strategic Plan. The strategic plan focuses on 7 dimensions of wellness to include physical, emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual, environmental, and occupational well being. The program ranges from walking, running, and cycling, to Yoga, Tai Chi, and meditation. Here are a few reasons why this company stood out from the crowd. In addition to asking employees to participate in annual health screenings, and offering reduced premiums for wellness plan participants, the winner now has an on‐site nurse practitioner. With their production operations working around the clock, it is difficult to make an appointment and take the time to see your family doctor when you are just getting off work at 6 a.m. The clinic is currently open two days a week, but is looking to expand availability and provides emergency response, treats illnesses, offers preventive care and disease management. Also, their current weight loss group is working with the clinic to help provide one on one counseling in their weight loss challenge. Large Company Business Health Award for 2011 (501 + employees) The winner in the Large Company category did a stellar job of meeting and exceeding the requirements set in the application. Here are a few examples that made this company stand out from the crowd. This Frederick County winner has been recognized for their wellness initiatives by the American Heart Association winning the Start! Fit‐Friendly Gold Award, and the 2010 Apex award for innovative employee wellness programs. A key to their success was recruiting Wellness Champions at every worksite. They are responsible for promoting wellness programs along with educating and motivating staff through internal wellness competitions at their numerous Frederick County locations. This company provides employees with access to a Nurseline, a Healthy Pregnancy Program, and online health coaching. The company also offers employees work life services such as financial, legal, childcare support, and eldercare support. Additionally, FMH honored businesses that joined or renewed their commitment to the FMH Corporate Honor Roll during the past year at the event. Please see photo to the left.
