Coffey, II ‐ V.P. & Chief Development Officer PHONE: (240) 566‐3478 EMAIL: kcoffey@fmh.org DATE: November 15, 2010 ‐ FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ‐ Frederick, MD: Frederick Memorial Healthcare System (FMH) and the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce teamed up to host the 1 st Annual FMH Business Health Awards on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Dutch’s Daughter in Frederick. The FMH Business Health Awards program was established by FMH’s Business & Industry Committee to recognize area businesses that provide innovative health and wellness programs for their employees. This Committee serves as one of five volunteer committees for the FMH Development Council and is responsible for providing service and education to the business community along with providing recognition to businesses that support FMH through the FMH Corporate Honor Roll program. “We've spent the last 18 months rebuilding our committee with a focus on providing service and education on healthcare to the local business community. The Business Health Awards program culminates almost a year of planning. We had two objectives for the program: First, to recognize businesses that have emerged as leaders in health promotion for their employees. Secondly, we hope that this annual program will help other businesses take more of a role in encouraging health and wellness in their organizations as a way to contain and even reduce their healthcare costs,” stated Gary Sanbower, Chairman of the FMH Business & Industry Committee. To qualify for an award, the nominees were asked to highlight programs which focused on the following areas: health education, fitness, health assessments, and wellness benefits. The three award recipients were selected for their vision and commitment to a healthy workforce. Ric Adams, President & CEO of the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce introduced the recipients of the awards in the three different categories, based on the size of the company; Small (1‐100 employees), Medium (101‐500), and Large (501+). Mr. Adams stated, “On behalf of the membership of the Chamber of Commerce, I am pleased to be a part of the festivities this evening. When FMH approached the Chamber about collaborating on this event, we jumped on board because health care costs are an important issue facing our business community.” AWARD RECIEPIENTS Small Company Business Health Award for 2010 (1 – 100 employees) In this category, the recipient’s employees came together for a “Biggest Loser” series, where teams of four people challenged each other to achieve weight loss goals over 16 weeks. All together, 16 participants lost 250 pounds in a recent contest!
