In December 1684, Nathaniel 7 was named as child in the inventory o f Nathaniel Collins of Middletown.<br />

On 5 May 1712, Nathaniel Collins receipted for his share of the esta te of Nathaniel Collins of Middletown.<br />

Nathaniel graduated from Harvard College with his A.B. in 1697. H e was the first minister of the church at<br />

Enfield CT.<br />

Rev. Nathaniel Collins was the first minister in the town of Enfield. He was a 1697 graduate of Harvard College<br />

and he arrived in Enfield in 1699 from Middlet own, Conn. (Enfield was founded in 1680 as Freshwater<br />

Plantation, named for nea rby Freshwater Brook. In 1683 it acquired legal status as a town and township from the<br />

General Court of Massachusetts, and officially became Enfield at that time.)<br />

"His salary was to be seventy pounds yearly. Every man sixteen years a nd older was to give him one day's work<br />

each year for four years. To this last provision all agreed except four or five persons. Enfield always had its diss<br />

enters."<br />

He served as minister of the Congregational church until 1724 when he resigned. From 1726-1728 and in 1734<br />

and 1735 he represented Enfield in the House of Representatives in the Massachusetts General Court. From 1729<br />

to 1735 he was Enfield's town clerk.<br />

Nathaniel Collins married Alice Adams in 1700/ 01 and with her had eight children, of which ANN (see #181)<br />

was the first. Aft er Alice's death in 1735, he married Rachel Smith.[2836643.FTW]<br />
