Sir William de Montacute, 2nd baron, summoned to parliamen t from 20 November, 1317, to 25 August, 1318.<br />
This noblema n had distinguished himself in the Scottish wars, in the li fetime of his father, and was made a<br />
knight of the Bath. I n the 11th Edward II [1318], being then a steward of the ki ng's household, his lordship was<br />
constituted seneschal of t he Duchy of Aquitaine, and had license to make a castle o f his house at Kersyngton, in<br />
Oxfordshire. He subsequentl y obtained other extensive grants from the crown. He m. Eli zabeth, dau. of Sir Peter<br />
de Montfort, of Beaudesert, by wh om (who m. 2ndly, Thomas, Lord Furnival), he had survivin g issue, William,<br />
his successor; Simon, in hold orders, bis hop of Worcester, translated to the see of Ely, in 1336; Ed ward (Sir),<br />
summoned to parliament as a Baron, temp. Edwar d III; Katherine, m. to Sir William Carrington, Knt.; Alice , m.<br />
