COMPUTER/NETWORK Each residence hall houses a computer area equipped with standard desktop computers with network access. All resident students have network access available to them from their rooms. Students can find frequently asked questions, computer requirements, information on the laptop program, and other useful information at the Framingham State ITS website. If you have other questions, or have network problems, please call the Student Help Desk at extension 5950. TELEPHONES Residents have access to local phone service, voice mail and a campus phone number through their room jack. Students are strongly encouraged to set up and utilize their individual voice mail systems to provide an easily accessible means of communication with the many Framingham State offices. If service is needed for your room telephone, contact the Student Help Desk at extension 5950. Students requesting service will need to contact the Student Help Desk, and make arrangements to be present if access to the room is required. For long distance access, students should use “1-800-type” calling cards, which can be purchased at the Framingham State bookstore or through local retailers. The Student Help Desk is for service problems only, not for information or advice on long distance service. No personal calls may be taken at the security desk. To access voicemail, follow these instructions: 1. Dial 4000. 2. Enter your extension/mailbox number and then the # sign. Only for the first time that you login when the system asks you for the password, you will simply hit # again. This will start the tutorial that will walk you through setting a permanent password and recording your name and greeting. 3. When the tutorial kicks in, you will be prompted to do three things to set up your mailbox for everyday use. The first thing that you will have to do is record your name. You will be prompted to press “1” to proceed. Then after the beep, state your name. 38
4. The second step of setting up your mailbox is building yourself an everyday password. Your password must be at least five digits long. They cannot be repetitive. Therefore “11111” will not be accepted. Also consecutive numbers like “12345” will not be accepted. When prompted to enter a password, enter your everyday password of five or more digits followed by the pound sign “#”. You will then be prompted to re-enter your password to make sure that you did not have a mistype the first time. Again enter the same five or more digit number followed by “#”. 5. The final step to setting up your mailbox is to record at least one greeting for callers to hear. At this point you will be at a main menu. 6. Press “3” to administer greetings. 7. Press “1” to create a greeting. 8. Press “1” to tell the system that you wish to record greeting number one. 9. Press “1” to begin the recording. Record your greeting at the beep. 10. Press “1” once you have finished recording. 11. Press “23” to listen to your greeting. 12. Press “21” to re-record your greeting. 13. Press “#” to save your greeting. 14. Be sure to press “1” to activate your greeting before you hang up. OTHER RESIDENT SERVICES LAUNDRY SERVICES Coin and card operated washers and dryers are available in all residence halls. If a student should experience difficulty with a machine, please report it directly to our provider Mac-Gray at the following web address: http://www.macgray.com/laundry/cs-laundry.cgi MICROFRIDGES Microfridges are combination microwave/freezer/refrigerator units that may be used in the residence halls. They are available for rent from the Office of Residence Life and Judicial Affairs for $199.00 for a full academic year. At the end of the academic year all rented microfridges must be cleaned, defrosted and left in the renter‟s assigned room. Applications are available on the Office of Residence Life and Judicial Affairs website. If any problems, issues or questions arise regarding your microfridge rental, please contact the assistant director of residence life at extension 4636. 39
