Setting Up Sponsoring Appointments
5 STEPS TO SETTING UP SPONSORING APPOINTMENTS OR INVITING GUESTS TO AN
OPPORTUNITY HOUR – Using the 1‐minute phone call!
Idea: Choose to do this with your favourite person from each Party who does not book a Party. This will
result in successful sponsoring and/or new bookings. The person will feel complimented when you reach
out to her/him this way.
1. Phone and introduce yourself – or do this at the end of the party
1. Example: “Hi Cindy, this is Sandy from Epicure. I met you last night at Linda’s party...”
2. Don’t ask a question here, don’t say “How are you?” or “Do you have time right now?” or “Is
this a good time?” … these questions make her think you’re going to take a long time, this is a
really short call, less than a minute.
3. Go right to next step, with no pause in between…
2. Pay a sincere compliment
Example: “I really enjoyed having you at the Party last night. You’re so much fun; you were like
a ray of sunshine. Thanks for sharing so many great ideas about how you use your Epicure
products.”
Go right to the next step, with no questions asked and no pause. A pause makes her feel like
she has to respond to the compliment, and that’s awkward.
3. Let her know you want her on your team
Example: “I look for fun people like you who love Epicure products … I want you to know that I
would love to have you on my Team. I think you’d be great doing what I do in Epicure.”
Don’t say “I want to recruit you.” Don’t ask a question yet… go right to the next step, with no
pause…
4. Offer an appointment or Invite her to an opportunity hour
Appointment Example: “I’d like to get together with you over coffee, to share how Epicure
could work for you. It’ll only take about 20 minutes.”
Opportunity Hour Example: “I’d like to invite you to an Opportunity Hour tomorrow evening,
so that you can hear how Epicure could work for you.”
5. Offer 2 appointment times (or invite her to an Opportunity Hour)
Appointment Example: “Would this afternoon around 2:00 PM work for you, or would this
evening at around 7:00 PM be better?”
Opportunity Hour Example: Inform her of the date, time, and location of the Opportunity Hour
– and offer to pick her up.
Appointment Example: Now pause and see what her answer is to the 2 times you offered. She
might pick one of those times, or she might have another time that works better for her. Or
she may have an objection (see below).
Gently overcome objections, and offer 2 appointment times again
If she starts asking a lot of questions:
“I knew you would have lots of questions. That’s why you and I should meet. I’ll be sure to answer
all your questions then.” Then offer the 2 appointment times again.
If she says she’s a very busy person:
“That’s one of the reasons I thought of you. The Epicure opportunity is perfect for busy people.
Let’s get together for just 20 minutes, and I’ll show you how Epicure could fit around your busy
schedule.” Then, offer 2 appointment times again.
If she says she doesn’t think she’s going to join Epicure:
“That’s okay. I know there’s a chance you’ll say no to what I’m going to share with you, and that
will be okay with me. There’s no obligation. I’m willing to take the time to meet with you, even
though I know there’s a chance you’ll say no. I feel I owe it to you to share this with you so that
you can make an educated decision.” Then, offer 2 appointment times again.
You can offer a gift at this point to make sure you get the appointment set. Don’t start out by
offering the gift for meeting with you, save that in your back pocket in case you need it to secure
an appointment. It’s always best to go into the appointment knowing she’s meeting with you
because she wants to hear about being on your Team, not just because she wants the gift. The
best gift you can give her is the gift of the opportunity.
