Future directions
Key drivers of change within the NTCS for 2010 are:
Medical Education and Training
Planning for the NT Medical Program. Years 1 and 2 of the Flinders
Medical Program will be offered for the first time in Darwin in 2011;
Indigenous Pathways funding and new Indigenous support staff;
New Indigenous Entry Stream (IES) to the Flinders GEMP program;
CDU and Flinders University collaboration on pathways to NT Medical
Program;
Flinders University to manage clinical services at the Palmerston Super
Clinic (due to open in September 2010);
Increased opportunities for interdisciplinary training through
collaborations with CDU, CRH, Baker Institute, NTGPE, Menzies School of
Health Research, Endeavour Medical Centre and the Palmerston Super
Clinic.
Allied Health Education and Training
The need to reduce fragmentation of allied health professional placements
by developing centralised systems and strengthening regional networks;
Establishment of new inter-professional placements.
Innovation and Research
Changing learning environments to better meet student learning needs;
Incorporating complex but simple to use audio visual capabilities into
new buildings;
Developing new research support framework;
Further progress towards eLearning as a viable alternative or
supplement for some current methods.
Northern Territory Health Workforce
Major focus of the NT Medical Program will be the recruitment and
training of Northern Territory and Indigenous people to become doctors
in the Northern Territory;
