Future directions<br />
Key drivers <strong>of</strong> change within the NTCS for 2010 are:<br />
Medical Education and Training<br />
Planning for the NT Medical Program. Years 1 and 2 <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Flinders</strong><br />
Medical Program will be <strong>of</strong>fered for the first time in Darwin in 2011;<br />
Indigenous Pathways funding and new Indigenous support staff;<br />
New Indigenous Entry Stream (IES) to the <strong>Flinders</strong> GEMP program;<br />
CDU and <strong>Flinders</strong> <strong>University</strong> collaboration on pathways to NT Medical<br />
Program;<br />
<strong>Flinders</strong> <strong>University</strong> to manage clinical services at the Palmerston Super<br />
Clinic (due to open in September 2010);<br />
Increased opportunities for interdisciplinary training through<br />
collaborations with CDU, CRH, Baker Institute, NTGPE, Menzies School <strong>of</strong><br />
Health Research, Endeavour Medical Centre and the Palmerston Super<br />
Clinic.<br />
Allied Health Education and Training<br />
The need to reduce fragmentation <strong>of</strong> allied health pr<strong>of</strong>essional placements<br />
by developing centralised systems and strengthening regional networks;<br />
Establishment <strong>of</strong> new inter-pr<strong>of</strong>essional placements.<br />
Innovation and Research<br />
Changing learning environments to better meet student learning needs;<br />
Incorporating complex but simple to use audio visual capabilities into<br />
new buildings;<br />
Developing new research support framework;<br />
Further progress towards eLearning as a viable alternative or<br />
supplement for some current methods.<br />
Northern Territory Health Workforce<br />
Major focus <strong>of</strong> the NT Medical Program will be the recruitment and<br />
training <strong>of</strong> Northern Territory and Indigenous people to become doctors<br />
in the Northern Territory;<br />
