Ostomy Patients<br />

7.1 The <strong>PD</strong> catheter exit-site should be placed as far as possible from<br />

an ostomy site ( not graded).<br />

7.2 We recommend that gastrostomy placement should<br />

preferentially take place either before or at the time of <strong>PD</strong><br />

catheter placement (1C).<br />

7.3 We recommend the preferential use of an open surgical<br />

procedure for gastrostomy placement <str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g> patients who are already<br />

receiv<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>g <strong>PD</strong>. In patients not yet receiv<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>g <strong>PD</strong>, gastrostomy<br />

placement can be performed by either open surgical technique or<br />

laparoscopically (1C).<br />

7.4 We suggest adm<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>istrati<strong>on</strong> of prophylactic antibiotic and<br />

antifungal therapy dur<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>g gastrostomy placement (2C).<br />

7.5 We suggest hold<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>g perit<strong>on</strong>eal dialysis for 1 or more days<br />

follow<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>g gastrostomy placement (2D).
