While deployed to Afghanistan, Captain Tammy
Lanning touched the lives of many as she developed
an Afghan Women's and Children's outreach
program that assisted over 1,000 families.
Captain Lanning to speak at GHS Graduation
Captain Tammy (Gallagher)
Lanning will give the commencement
address to the Glasgow High School
Class of 2010.
Lanning graduated from GHS
in 2001, and enrolled in Black Hills
State University in Spearfish, South
Dakota, after being offered a four
year Army ROTC scholarship.
Lanning signed her military contract
on September 5,2001, and completed
the ROTC program on May 7, 2005.
She was commissioned as a 2nd
Lieutenant.
From there Lanning attended the
Military Intelligence Officer's Basic
Course at FT Huachuca, Arizona
and was stationed at FT Drum, New
York, with the 3rd Brigade of the 10th
Mountain Division.
In February of 2006, Lanning
deployed to Khowst Province,
Afghanistan, as an Assistant
Intelligence Officer for the 4th
Battalion 25th Field Artillery
Regiment. She remained there until
January of 2007, and returned to New
York only to step off of the plane and
then return to Afghanistan, as the 10th
Mountain Division had been extended
for an additional four months. The
final four months of Laming's tour
were spent at Forward Operating Base
Kalagush, conducting intelligence and
humanitarian assistance operations.
In May of 2007, Tammy returned
to New York, and was transferred as
a 1st Lieutenant to the 3rd Brigade
in 1916 and grew to 2660 stores. The
stores were eventually sold to other
food chains but 600 or more stores
are still operating independently in
17 states. It was the first true self
service grocery store and originally
offered 605 packages of food sold
in 4 different departments. Piggly
Wiggly was the first to provide checkout stands, price
every item, use refrigerated cases, put employees in
uniforms, and feature a full line of nationally advertised
items.
The naming of the food chain is a mystery but one story
is that the owner of the food chain, Clarence Saunders,
saw a bunch of little pigs struggling to get under a fence
and the term became a ryhme which appealed to him.
Hours after the end of the world, a border dispute
emerged between heaven and hell. God invited the devil for
conversations to find a way to resolve this dispute quickly.
Satan, the devil, proposed a soccer game between heaven
and hell.
God, always fair, told the devil, 'The heat must be
affecting your brain, old boy. The game would be so one
sided ... don't you know all the good players go to heaven?"
The devil, smiling, responded "Yeah, but we've got all
the refs."

'The Dirty Shame plays original outlaw country and hits from the likes of Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, David
Alan Coe, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams Jr., Johnny Cash, and all the outlaws.
The Dirty Shame's Gonna 'Rock the Block'
The Glasgow Areachamber ofcommerce & Agriculture
is going to Rock the Block this summer.
June 2, 2010 will be the first of two summer Rock the
Blocks. It will be held on Klein Avenue and Plains Plaza.
The event will be from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. It will feature live
music by The Dirty Shame from Bozeman.
The Dirty Shame performs original outlaw country; the
Shame is able to entertain crowds of all ages and all walks
of life. From heart-wrenching ballads to foot-stomping
honky-tonk, their music is brought to life with an emotional
clarity.
The goal of Rock the Block is to sponsor events which
will create more economic opportunities for Chamber
members by gathering families, visitors, residents and nonresidents
to celebrate the Glasgow community. These events
will give vendors a chance to showcase their crafts or raise
money for a cause or organization.
Area crafters, vendors, organizations and area merchants
are encouraged to set up their goods at Plains Plaza parking
lot. The street will be closed at 3:00 for vendor set up
The second Rock the Block will be held in conjunction
with Crazy Days July 29-31.September 10 & 11 will be the
Scotty Homecoming/Oktoberfest weekend featuring the
Saskatoon Police Pipes & Drums. The Glasgow Chamber
looks forward to having you participate in these events and
activities to promote Glasgow and Valley County. For more
information please call the Chamber office at 406-228-2222
or email at chamber@glasgowmt.net
Formed in 2006, The Dirty Shame was the conceptual idea
of Brandon Hale who grew up inundated with the songs
of his outlaw country heroes. His vocal ability is apparent
from the first note of the evening and his ability to emulate
the voices of country legends is inspiring.
Thestrong vocals are backed by an eclectic groupoftalented
musicians. On lead guitar and vocals is Dan Bradner whose
precision guitar playing and gritty vocals give the music
added character and dimension. His great guitar work is
complemented by the playing of Tom Day who lends the
authentic sounds of the pedal steel to syncopated solos
and extended musical forays. The rhythm section consists
of the hard hitting drumming and backing vocals of Dean
Wakerlin and the intense bass playing of Mike Hoffman on
electric and upright bass.
