Inauguration @ Warora
The formal consecration of the 600 MW Coal based Power plant, GMR EMCO Energy Limited (GEEL)
was performed at project site, Warora, from 22nd to 24th November 2012. Mr. G M Rao, Group
Chairman, along with his wife Mrs. G Varalakshmi, Mr. G B S Raju, Business Chairman - Energy,
Mrs. B Rama Devi, wife of Mr. Srinivas Bommidala, Business Chairman – Airports, Mr. Kiran Kumar
Grandhi, Business Chairman – Urban Infra and Highways with his wife Mrs. Ragini Grandhi participated.
Mr. Raaj Kumar, CEO – Energy Business and other Senior Officials of the Group were present on the
occasion.
On the occasion, workmen who built the plant were thanked by the Management and served lunch at
Warora, Maharashtra.
The project is ideally located in terms of infrastructure with excellent rail, road and air connectivity and
is expected to be commissioned by the end of this financial year.

Load Trial @ Warora
GEEL, Boiler Feed Pump – 1C Load Trial successfully done
Steam Blowing @ Warora
GEEL, achieved another milestone when steam blowing process at the plant commenced on 8th October
2012, moving a step closer towards commissioning of the plant.
Synchronisation @ Warora
GEEL, successfully synchronized the first Thermal Unit on 10th December 2012

GEEL Completes Transmission Line
GMR EMCO Energy Limited, Warora, added another feather to its cap by completing the first 400 KV
D/C dedicated transmission line of the Group which will facilitate evacuation of power generated from
EMCO TPP - Warora to Powergrid, S/S Bhadravati.
The work included laying foundation for 96 towers, erection, and stringing the 400 KV double circuit
line. The transmission line - CKT-1 was successfully charged on 19th October 2012. The switchyard and
other transformers were charged subsequently.

Traffic Rotary Inauguration @ Chhattisgarh
A Traffic Rotary near the new Mantralaya, Naya
Raipur, was inaugurated by Dr. Raman Singh, Chief
Minister of Chhattisgarh, on 2nd November 2012.
The Rotary with 150 m diameter and aesthetically
designed colonnades featuring a central water
fountain & garden has been developed by GMR
Chhattisgarh Energy Limited (GCEL), which is
setting-up the state-of-the-art Coal-based 1370
MW Power project at Raikheda in Raipur District.

Boiler Lightup @ Kamalanga
GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL) achieved a major milestone when a boiler of the first of its four
units of 350 MW each, was lit up on 28th November 2012.
DPSI Achieves 10 Million Accident-Free
Manhours
Doosan Power Systems India private Limited (DPSI), GMR Chhattisgarh Energy Limited’s EPC contractor
achieved 10 million accident-free manhours at the BTG site on 9th November 2012. Prizes and
Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to best Safety Performer employees, workers of DPSI and its
Sub-contractors on the occasion.

Overview of Hydro Projects
With the vision of providing clean energy
through Hydro Power, GMR Energy achieved the
long awaited breakthrough clearances in 2012.
Accordingly, our two projects - Alaknanda Hydro
Energy Project and Bajoli Holi Hydro Energy
Project are on the verge of starting construction.
Our two large hydro Projects in Nepal have also
achieved significant milestones. Development
of renewable energy projects and developing a
sustainable and diversified energy generation
mix has been the cornerstone of GMR’s Energy
strategy.
300 MW Alaknanda HE Project (Uttarakhand)
Stage II Forest clearance and approval from
National Green Tribunal (NGT) have been obtained
from MOEF along with key approvals from the
State & Central Governments. The project is set
to start infrastructure development and achieve
Financial Close shortly.
900 MW Upper Karnali and 600 MW
Upper Marsyangdi -2 Hydro projects, Nepal
The Public Hearing at Upper Karnali site was
successfully completed with a record turnout
of more than 3500 people. Studies have been
completed for both projects and PDA negotiations
with Government of Nepal are being undertaken.
Discussions are on with MDBs for financial
appraisal. A long term Import License for 30 years
was obtained from DGFT for import of Power from
these projects, a first of its kind in India.
180 MW Bajoli Holi HE Project
(Himachal Pradesh)
Forest Clearance from Ministry of Environmental
Clearance, MoEF (Stages - I&II) has been obtained.
Land Acquisition process is in the advanced stage
and will be accomplished within 1-2 months. The
project is close to achieving Financial Close.

Hungund-Hospet Highway Open for Public
The Commercial Operations of GMR Hungund -
Hospet project commenced on 23rd November,
2012. Toll collection started at two of the three
toll plazas covering about 88% of the 99 Km long
project highway. The remaining portion will be
completed by March 2013, upon which the 3rd toll
plaza will also become operational. The project has
achieved partial COD on 3rd November, 2012. Out
of the 87.17 Km of completed section, 62.825 Km
is executed by M/s Oriental Structural Engineers
while 24.34 Km is executed by M/s GIL – EPC. The
project was awarded by NHAI to the Consortium
of M/s GMR and M/s OSE and the Concession
Agreement was signed on 22nd March, 2010.
The project highway passes through three districts
of Karnataka - Bagalkot, Koppal and Bellary
connecting towns of Hungund, Illkal, Kustagi,
Hosahalli, Minirabad and Hospet and is expected
to give a boost to the trade, commerce and
tourism in the State.
Hyderabad - Vijayawada Highway
Commences Commercial Operations
GMR Highways started Commercial Operations of
the 181 Km long GMR Hyderabad – Vijayawada
section of National Highway 9 in the State of
Andhra Pradesh from 20th December 2012.
This is the sixth road project of the Group and
4th in the State of Andhra Pradesh. The project
involved ugradation of the 2 - lane highway to
4 - lane as per specifications laid down by NHAI.
The project will not only curb the frequent delays
experienced by travellers but also improve the
safety levels. The corridor connecting two major
economic hubs of Andhra Pradesh - Hyderabad
and Vijayawada is expected to boost the economy
of the region. The project was awarded through
International Competitive bidding by NHAI on
DBFOT basis with a Concession Period of 25 years
including 2.5 years of construction period.

‘CORR’ Site Visits

Government of Tamilnadu (GoTN), Chennai,
accompanied by Dr. Niranjan Mardi, IAS, Principal
Secretary to GoTN, Highways and Minor Ports
Department, Mr. D Vivekanandan, IAS, MD -
Tamilnadu Road Development Company (TNRDC)
Ltd., Mr. Y R Balaji, GM-Projects, TNRDC, Chief
Engineers - Highways Department, GoTN,
visited the Chennai Outer Ring Road Project on
16th October 2012.
Mr. O B Raju, MD - GMR Highways,
Mr. R Sabhanayagam, CPM - CORR and
Mr. D R Ughandhar, CPM, GIL-EPC Division,
welcomed the Officials at Vandalur, proposed
location of the Interchange at NH45.
The Minister assessed the progress of the project
road work and also inspected the laboratory/
Precast Yard at Ch: 21+000. The Officials proceeded
for site visit starting from Vandalur via Nazarathpet
(proposed location of the interchange at NH4) to
Nemilichery (proposed location of the interchange
at NH205). On completion of the site inspection,
the Minister expressed satisfaction on the project
progress in spite of various challenges.

Computer Training - Rajahmundry
A 5 day orientation programme for imparting
Computer skills to the local youth was conducted
at Andhra Bank Institute of Rural Development
(ABIRD) Rajahmundry. The programme has been
organised as per the directions of Ms. Neetu
Kumari Prasad, District Collector, Kakinada.
Around 33 candidates were selected and placed
in Government Police and Revenue departments
as Consultants. The institute personnel were kind
enough to give certificates to all the participiants.
The District Collector distributed the certificates.
Developing Rural BPOs
Kakinada Industrial Investment Region entered
into partnership agreement with one of the
largest Rural BPO Organizations in India,
M/s. Rural Shores, Bangalore, on 03 November,
2012 to establish a Rural BPO in Kakinada.
The signing ceremony was held at Chambers of
the District Collector during which M/s. Kakinada
Industrial Investment Region and M/s. RuralShores
signed the agreement in the august presence of
Ms. Neetu Kumari Prasad, I.A.S., Collector & District
Magistrate, East-Godavari District. Members
of the District Administration, employees of
GMR-Kakinada Industrial Investment Region and
Ruralshores, were present on the occasion.
Kakinada Industrial Investment Region also
announced to the Honourable Collector, the
commencement of development of a Marine
Processing Zone. Spread over 100-150 acres,
the Marine Processing Zone plans to cater to
needs of the Indian and Overseas companies. 3-4
Marine Processing Units are likely to commence
operations over the next 12-18 months employing
about 1000-1500 local people.
ISO 9001:2008 Re-certification for GIL - EPC
GIL – EPC Division successfully achieved ISO 9001:2008 recertification from the certifying body BVCI.
The ISO recertification audit was conducted from 29th to 31st October 2012.
The 10 mandays audit was conducted by 6 auditors. No NCRs were reported during the audit process.
The certifying body appreciated the commitment of the top management towards ISO certification
along with the practices adopted for documentation and monitoring Sub-contractors.

Mr. G M Rao’s Address at the
12th GLOBAL INVESTORS MEET
On the occasion of 12th anniversary of
formation of the State of Chhattisgarh, the
Government of Chhattisgarh organized
a Global Investors Meet and Exhibition - 2012
from 1st to 7th November 2012 at Naya Raipur,
attended by Mr. G M Rao, Group Chairman and
other dignitaries.
The Group Chairman, in his address said “India
is growing at double the pace of the rest of the
world. In this context, it is remarkable that the
State of Chhattisgarh is growing at almost twice
the rate of India! However, it still has immense
need for development. Chhattisgarh has the
unique advantage to be near the centre of India.
It has tremendous opportunities to leverage
its locational advantage and build world-class
Airports and Aerotropolis to significantly boost
the investments in the State”.
Corporates like Godrej, Jindal Steel & Power,
Essar, Vedanta, SAIL, etc. attended the event.
GMR Infrastructure Limited (GIL) signed three
MoUs with the Government of Chhattisgarh
during the event.
A 3D stall with the theme ‘Global Presence’ of the
Group was put up in the exhibition from 1st to
7th November.

Awards Galore 2012
SATTE Award For RGIA
Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) was awarded the “Best
Performing Domestic Airport” in the Aviation Sector during the
Annual Tourism Trade Show SATTE-2012, held from 10th -12th
February, 2012 at Delhi.
National Tourism Award for RGIA
RGIA has been awarded the prestigious “National Tourism Award
2010-’11” under the ‘Best Airport’ category. The award was
presented by her Excellency, the Honourable President of India,
Mrs. Pratibha Singh Patil to Mr. Vikram R. Jaisinghani, CEO-RGIA, at
an award ceremony in New Delhi on 29th February, 2012.
Skytrax Award for RGIA
Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has been
declared to be India’s 3rd Best Airport, 2012 at the ‘SKYTRAX World
Airport Awards’ held at Passenger Terminal EXPO in Vienna on
20th April 2012.
RGIA Bags 2 More Awards
Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has been honoured with the
“Best Cargo Airport & Best Cargo Terminal of the Year” awards,
recently. The esteemed Air Cargo Agents Association of India
(ACAAI), announced the awards during its 39th Annual Convention
held at Istanbul on 22nd- 25th November, 2012.

Routes Award for IGIA
Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) won the award for the
Highly Commended Airport in Marketing and Route Development
in the Middle East & Indian subcontinent region. The award was
announced on 19th April, 2012 during the ‘Annual Routes Asia 2012’
held in Chengdu, China.
Skytrax Award for IGIA
IGIA has been awarded the World’s Most Improved Airport-2012
and Number 1 Airport in India at the ‘SKYTRAX - World Airport
Awards’ held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Vienna on
20th April, 2012.
ISGIA Bags Another Award
Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport was awarded the
SUPERBRAND 2012 status during the Turkey’s Super Brands - 2012
Program in Turkey, Istanbul.

Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (ISGIA) was awarded
the Best Airport Award & Best Friendly Flight Info Screen Award
during the “Voyager Travel Awards 2012” conducted by Turkey’s first
travel magazine, Voyager.

‘BE Assessment’ For Energy Sector
In the journey towards Business Excellence, the second cycle of Group-wide assessments has been
initiated in the Energy Sector. The purpose of this annual assessment is to have an objective measure
of process performance and results achieved. The assessment team comprised of a mix of TQMS and
internal Certified Assessors.
Energy Sector showed considerable improvement over 2011 with a 43 point jump in the assessment
score.
‘BE: E-Learning’ Module
The revised version of GMR Business Excellence e-Learning Module was launched by Mr. P M Kumar,
Chairman-Institution Building & Governance. This is an important milestone considering the Group
is now working towards making Business Excellence a culture of the organization and a way of life to
develop world class processes.
The Malcolm Baldrige Organization has a process of improving the criteria on a bi-annual basis in
accordance with changing business scenario.

Talent Management @ GMR Group
2012 has been an exciting and happening year for
GMR – Talent Management Group.
GMR Group realizes the need to substantially build
upon the Organization and human capabilities by
developing a strong talent pipeline.
Emerging Leaders:
This year also saw the shift in our businesses from
Project phase to Asset phase. In continuation to
our philosophy of developing Leaders from within,
we have partnered with IIM Kozhikode to develop
our AGMs and GMS for the next level through the
Emerging Leaders Program (ELP). The first batch
successfully completed the program and the 2nd
batch was launched on 10th December, 2012.
e-Learning
e-learning courses based on the GMR Competency
Framework of 4 Pillars (Leading Self, Leading
Others, Leading Business and Leading Change) and
11 Competencies are available to the individual at
the workplace.
Talent Review 2012 – 2013
With an objective of building a strong institution,
“Talent Review”, the process of formal interaction
between the Group Holding Board Members and
Senior Leadership Team on Talent Assessment at
the Group and Business levels was organized.
The review covered the assessment of 170 Top
Potential Leaders across the Group.
Professional Development Dialogue 2012-
2013
Professional Development Dialogue (PDD) is an
annual formal interaction and communication
between the employee and the Manager aimed at
enabling and motivating the employee to pursue
short, mid and long term competence building
goals. The broad objective of PDD is to provide
work opportunities and a learning environment
conducive to personal and professional
development of employees.
Talent Management in the Group assumes
significant importance to address the current
and future business challenges. It primarily aims
at investing in people development by way of
identifying successors and talented individuals for
Leadership Roles in the Group. It also focuses on
identification, development and career movement
of employees within the Group to enhance the
retention of key talent and to prepare Leaders with
a variety of knowledge and cross functional skills.

IATA & GMR Workshop
Indira Gandhi International Airport - Environment
Team along with IATA - International Airport
Transport Association, conducted a 2-day
workshop on “Infrastructure, Fuel Efficiency
for Emission Reductions” at New Delhi from
10th - 11th September 2012. Officials from various
Airports, Airlines, Ground handling agencies,
Air traffic Controllers, DGCA and IATA members
participated in the workshop.
Mr. Marcel Hungerbuehler, COO-IGIA, addressed
the participants during the inauguration and
set the Vision by emphasizing on significance
of “Infrastructure, Fuel Efficiency for Emission
Reductions & Sustainable Aviation Environment
Management.” The workshop served as a
platform for reaping multiple benefits like airport
operational efficiency improvement, efficient use
of infrastructures, air navigational improvements
and obtaining stakeholders’ support.

and air navigation infrastructures for efficient &
environment friendly airport operations.
GMR “Aerotropolis” Plan
Wows the Mayor of London
Mr. Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, visited
Hyderabad on 27th November 2012, along with
a business delegation for a networking event.
On the occasion, he visited Rajiv Gandhi
International Airport and was accorded a warm
reception by Mr. Kiran Kumar Grandhi, Business
Chairman – Airports, Mr. S G K Kishore, CEO –
GMR Airport City and Mr. G U G Sastry, COO -
Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
A detailed presentation on distinct features
of the Airport and Airport City was made by
Mr. Kiran Kumar Grandhi and Mr. S G K Kishore. The
presentation featured the Vision and development
plans to make the Airport City a world class multithemed
hub of economic activity. It also elaborated
on the endeavour to make it a landmark and
one-of-its-kind project in the country.
Mr. Johnson while detailing on development
plans for London, was highly appreciative of the
Airport City concept and was interested in seeking
more details about the Airport and Airport City.
Subsequent to his Hyderabad visit and back in
London, he was reported to have expressed his
desire to build an Aerotropolis on the banks of
the river Thames in London, quoting GMR’s similar
foray.

Airports
Cathay launches direct flights to Hong Kong
staged with Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and
the Hong Kong Tourism Board. Cathay Pacific will
be the only airline offering a scheduled non-stop
service between Hyderabad and Hong Kong. The
flights will be operated by an Airbus A330-300
aircraft. Prior to this, the airline launched a weekly
freighter service to Hyderabad in May 2012.
Cathay Pacific Airways launched a new four
times a week service between Hong Kong and
Hyderabad, at a ceremony at Rajiv Gandhi
International Airport, marking the inauguration
of the new route. The announcement about the
service launch was made at a joint media briefing
Hajj Operations @ RGIA
The Holy Hajj Operations commenced successfully at Rajiv
Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on 6th October 2012.
RGIA provided excellent facilities at the Hajj Terminal for the
convenience of pilgrims going on Holy
Hajj. The facilities included separate
area for visitors, Departure Lounge, Tea,
Coffee & Snacks Joints in the Security
Hold area, Telephone Booths, Forex
Counters, Duty Free Shop, First Aid
facility, Buggies for elderly passengers,
Wheelchair for the needy, Parking
etc. A Prayer Hall was also provided
for passengers with facilities for Vazu
(ablutions).

support for the operations during the
season.

ACI Asia-Pacific Emerging Airports Seminar
The 8th ACI Asia-Pacific Emerging Airports Seminar
was held at Novatel Hotel, Hyderabad. Organised
by ACI and hosted by Rajiv Gandhi International
Airport, the seminar witnessed the presence
of dignitaries from Regulatory bodies under
Government of India, speakers from diverse fields
and eminent delegates. The 4 day seminar was
as a combination of city tour, welcome reception,
gala dinner, an interactive and engrossing CEO
Forum and talk sessions by stalwarts from India
and abroad.

region. Airport Council International (ACI) has
accredited RGIA a Level 2 - ‘Reduction’ under
the Airport Carbon Accreditation program on
8th November, 2012 at the 8th ACI Asia-Pacific
Small Airport seminar organized by ACI Asia-Pacific.
Airport Carbon Accreditation is the European
standard for carbon management and emission
reductions at airports. The program received
support from International Civil Aviation
Organization (ICAO) and was extended to the
Asia-Pacific region in November 2011. Mr. Vikram
Jaisinghani, CEO - RGIA received the Certificate
and Mr. P S Nair, CEO - Corporate GMR Airports,
received the Airport Carbon Accreditation
Certificate for Indira Gandhi International Airport
which was accredited at Level 2 – ‘Reduction’ in
July 2012.

On 14th October 2012, Mr. Bharat Singh,
Supervisor – Raxa, Mr. D K Singh, Supervisor –
Raxa and Mr. Rajnesh Singh, Marshal- Raxa, found
an unattended handbag on a trolley at pickup
point. They informed the CISF vigilance personnel,
who after due security check opened the bag in
the presence of CISF and Delhi Police personnel.
The bag contained a gold Bracelet, some property
papers, cash of ` 2,50,000/, Credit cards, blank
cheques and Visiting Cards.
On the basis of the Visiting Cards, the person was
identified as Mr. Amar Khanna, Secretary - Shiv
Sena, Maharashtra and bag was handed over to
him. Raxa personnel were applauded for alertness
& honesty displayed.

HELPING HAND: RAXA Academy in coordination
with GMRVF Varalakshmi Foundation donated a
medical inspection table and extended a helping
hand to the handicapped children at a school in
Chilambathur.
Raxa pioneered the concept of Integrated Security
Solutions, providing an ideal mix of manpower and
systems as a One-stop solution and undertook
vital projects for Indian Naval Project at Vizag
and Caparo Engineering Pvt Ltd. at Chennai. Raxa
personnel efficiently handled the operations and
displayed high morale.

‘Excavator Operator’ Training
A new Vocational Training course on ‘Excavator
Operator’ in partnership with Volvo was launched
at GMR Varalakshmi Center for Empowerment and
Livelihoods (CEL), Hyderabad, on 25th September,
2012. This is the first time that Volvo is partnering
with another company for training of Excavator -
Operators as a part of CSR activities.
The course was inaugurated by
Mr. A M Muralidharan, President - Volvo
Construction Equipment, India, in the presence of
Mr. David Hill, VP - Finance for Volvo Asia Pacific,
Ms. Meena Raghunathan, Director, Community
Services - GMRVF, Mr. L M Laxmanmurthy, Head
– Finance & Admin, GMRVF. Speaking on the
occasion, Mr. Muralidharan emphasized on Volvo‘s
commitment towards CSR in India, demand
for trained operators in this field and about
partnership with GMRVF. Ms. Meena emphasized
on how GMRVF values partnership with Volvo
and urged the youth to take full advantage of the
course.
Baggage Screeners’ Selection
GMR Varalakshmi Foundation supported and
facilitated the selection of “Baggage Screeners” for
Indira Gandhi International Airport by mobilizing
youth in the age group 18-30 years from GMR
target villages in Uttarakhand, Hyderabad and
Rajam. A total of 38 youth (Uttarakhand -12;
Hyderabad- 14; Rajam -12) were finally selected
through a Written Test and Personal Interview.
After the initial on-the-job training, they will
appear for the “Certification Process” of the
Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to become
Certified Screeners.

Mobile Medical Unit Launched
To provide health care
services to the community
at the doorstep, GMRVF
initiated a Mobile Medical
Unit (MMU) at Kakinada
Industrial Investment
Region. The MMU was
launched in September,
2012 and caters to health
care needs of 31 villages.
So far, MMU provided
services like health checkups,
medicines etc. to
over 2000 persons from
21 villages.
Passenger Attendant Recruitment Drive
In collaboration with DIAL, GMRV Center for
Empowerment and Livelihoods (CEL) - Delhi
organized “Passenger Attendant” recruitment
drive for Indira Gandhi International Airport on
26th June 2012. CEL-Delhi team mobilized and
registered more than 300 youth from different
areas and a total of 110 unemployed youth
from underprivileged backgrounds attended
the interviews. The local NGOs and Panchayath
leaders in areas like Pochenpor, Dwaraka,
Kusumpoor Pahari, Rangpuri, Goyla Diary, Palam
also supported the mobilization drive. More than
70 youth were finally selected for the job at Indira
Gandhi International Airport.

Twenty20 tournament to promote the sport among the schools and to spot young talent.
