Remarks: This multi-element species comprises elements that are either
sporadically or well denticulated. Contrary to the denticle-like modifications
on some elements of Prioniodus deltatus (LINDSTROM), emend. herein (PI.
8, figs. 1-9) the denticles of Prioniodus. navis are·distinct tooth-like structures,
wh,ich are never fused completely. All elements have been described
,earlier as separate form species.
The prioniodiform element (PI. 8, figs. 10, 11) is Prioniodus navis
LINDSTROM, 1955. To this form species belong well denticulated forms
and others with occasional denticles, as follows from the illustrations which
accompany the original description. The sporadically denticulated forms (PI.
8, fig. 10) seem to take an intermediate position between forms called
Acodus deltatus LINDSTROM, 1955 and those called Prioniodus navis
LINDSTROM, 1955.
The prioniodinaform element is Prioniodina densa LINDSTROM, 1955
(PI. 8, fig. 12), which may be sporadically denticulated in the older faunas.
Prioniodus triangularis LINDSTROM, 1955, is the gothodiform element
(PI. 8, figs. 13, 14). In fact, it is not quite comparable with the form genus
Gothodus LINDSTROM as it sometimes carries denticles on its anterior edge
(process). But on the other hand, it is not a real Prioniodus either, because
the lateral edge (process) is undenticulated and there are no real free
processes.
