Part 4

Some people believe that a
photograph is worth a thousand
wordsI am one of those people.
So naturally finding the perfect
photographer is important to making
my wedding memorable. The Glebe
and nearby neighbourhoods boast
many reputable wedding photographers:Your
first task is to identify
the style of photographs you are
interested in. The two main types of
wedding photography are portrait
and documentary. Portrait is a very
traditional style, consisting of a
posed group. Documentary-style
photography will tell the story of
your day, often starting while you
prepare in the morning and
continuing up to your first dance
the shots are called "candids." Most
photographers will offer both styles,
but will usually specialize in one
or you may be more attracted to one
style than another. There are so
many photographers in Ottawahere

Reportage photographer, Jennifer
Buter, recommends using 20 per
cent portrait and 80 per cent documentary-style
photography. This is
the ratio she tends to work with,
unless otherwise requested by the
couple. The combination offers

Photolux Studio, at 197 Preston
Street, recently won five first-place
awards at the 25th annual Wedding
and Portrait Photographers International
Convention. I had the
pleasure of meeting Frank Cava of
Photolux at a bridal fair and was
impressed with both his professionalism
and his portfolio. The
studio is known for its photojournalist
style and is very popular.

Bill Grimshaw has been a career
photojournalist since 1975. He now
works in the Glebe as a wedding,
editorial and freelance photojournalist.
On his website, he
specifies that he enjoys shooting
wedding photographs in a relaxed
photojournalist style. He has been
very popular for his use of creativity
while shooting. With all his years of
experience, Grimshaw has an
excellent portfolio and practical
knowledge of wedding photography.

Finally, I researched Andrew
Balfour Photography, located on
Holmwood Avenue. This studio was
established in 1990. Andrew Balfour
is a charismatic and experienced
photographervery easy to talk to
and full of great ideas for wedding
photos. Balfour, who worked at
other photography studios in Canada
and the U.S.A. before opening his
own studio, loves the opportunity to
photograph weddings because of the
singularity of each moment he
shoots. Wedding packages listed on

an album of thirty 8"x10" photos.

As I plan the last few details for
my wedding, I cannot believe how
fast time is passing. There is so much
to do, but I often get given the good
advice to take time for myself before
the wedding. To stay relaxed, I take
time to pray and meditate. I have
also enjoyed renting funny wedding
movies or watching my favourite
sitcom weddings.
