Friends of Sunnyside
Library springing forward

The Friends of the Sunnyside
Library are out from hibernation,
our aching backs and frazzled
nerves having recovered from last
October's book sale. Building on
that successful event, which raised
over $9,000 in
only four hours,
the Friends are
back on the
fundraising
beat. Our next
venture will be
a Sunnyside
Library book
bag, something
stylish and sturdy
to lug your
literary loot!

The design
on our bag will be a smiling
sunburst drawn by Jacqueline Law, a
four-year-old library patron and
Sunnyside fan. Children's librarian
Sue Townley has been gathering art
submissions from her desk since
March break, and has a super
collection of smiling sunshines. We
are hoping to mount and display
these wonderful illustrations at the
library. Thank you to all the children
who participated!
Book bags will be ready by the
end of the month, in time for
launching at the Great Glebe Garage
Sale. We also
anticipate
having them
available at the
library's circulation
desk
and at other convenient
locations
throughout
the community.
Bags will be $10
each As with
the book sale,
profits will be held in trust by OSCA
and used for the improvement and
development of programming space
at the Sunnyside branch. For further

The Swampwater Dixieland Jazz Band in 2003 when musicians braved the
rain and still raised $400 for the Food Bank. Last year the group raised
$1,170! This year it will be playing from 9 a. m. to noon on Third Avenue
between Percy and Chrysler

sale, a part of the Great Glebe Garage Sale. To arrange for

South and, in particular, we would like to hear from individuals with links to
the Francophone, multicultural and senior communities. To be on the ballot,
nomination applications must be received by June 10, at 5:00 p.m.
Nominations will also be accepted from the floor.
