Tabloid Sports at Apsley

Year 12’s last day this week and exams begin today. Year 12’s went flat
out to ‘redecorate’ the school but also cleaned up their ‘creativity’ by
recess. We wish them well with their exams over the next few weeks.
It is the culmination of 13 years at school and we hope they all achieve
the scores they need for further study, employment or training.
Congratulations to Caitlyn last week who came third in the State
Athletic Championships Shot Put event in Melbourne. This is the fourth year Caitlyn has
made state finals – a remarkable achievement for a student who has no access to specialist
athletics training in the district.
A reminder that we would like to receive feedback about our Chaplain’s support at
the school and we would encourage any parents to return the slip below to the school if
they have any comment regarding Brian’s input at the school. Brian currently works in a
number of classes as a support for students and teachers, accompanies teachers and
students on camps as well as assist with the Health programme at year 7. Response forms
can be left at the front office and we would appreciate any feedback ASAP.
Thank you to Lisa Hockley and Leanne Chaplin who have expressed interest in
running the canteen next year. Although details are still to be finalised, Lisa and Leanne are
looking at the possibility of opening the canteen 2 days each week.
The grade 5/6 camp is in its last days and we have heard that they have been having
a great time in Melbourne. We welcome them back at around 4.30pm on Friday afternoon.
Our school has been fortunate enough to have been accepted into the Australia/
Indonesia Bridge project which means we will be hosting some Indonesian teachers in our
community for several weeks next year as well as developing direct links with Indonesian
schools. This is a great opportunity for our school to not only reinforce the language skills
of the students at our school, but also establish some cultural links with communities and
schools in Indonesia. We hope to use our videoconferencing equipment to allow
students in Goroke communicate directly with students at school in Indonesia.
We look forward to developing this programme next year.

Last term Goroke P-12 (VCAL) student’s embarked on an activity which involved
the re-planting of a tree. The original tree was planted near the Goroke show
grounds to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II 21 st Birthday. We felt that the tree
planting was appropriate this year to celebrate 60 years of rule.
We investigated various potential trees and due to the height restrictions of the
overhead power lines it was decided that the most suitable native was the
Cootamundra Wattle. The most satisfying part of the project was working within a
team towards a shared goal.

On the 23 rd October, I travelled to
Melbourne to compete in the Victorian
State Track and Field Championships.
I competed in the 18 years and under
Girls Shot Put. This was my fourth and
final year and I was placed third.
First Place won with a throw of 11.43m,
second place 10.35m and third place was
10.32m.
