Our company is increasingly becoming 

specialists for commercial 

and security areas. This trend is 

also readable in the catalogue 

2010/11. 

The GEOS brand has enhanced 

its high quality, while the new WG4 

commercial bearing is positioned 

as the low-priced alternative to it. 

The new locks and fittings range 

for emergency exit doors brings yet 

more expertises to the commercial 

area. And all these product groups 

can be combined with the TAC 

locking system. 

New bearings 

In the product section of each model, 

you will find reference to the two 

commercial bearings, which essentially 

differ first of all in terms of the load 

capacities and the guarantee period 

assured by us. In the price section you 

will find GEOS and WG4 clearly separated 

– in own lists for solid or tubular 

frame doors.

now equipped with an M5 screw fitting, 

which is specially suitable for 

the pinch screws of panic bars.

language: Mifare® 

Beside the already renowned and 

well-established Legic® system, we 

can now offer a second contactless 

transponder technology. Mifare® is 

combined with TAC mortise locks 

and is as comfortable and conforming 

to standards as the first 

system. 

Safe and well shaped 

The ZA3 series fills a gap in our 

wide range of burglar-proof series. 

This fitting with a 15-mm high protection 

plate and a massive carrier 

plate fulfils the requirements of the 

resistance class 3 of the ÖNORM 

B 5351 (Austrian standard) and is 

available with or without the plug 

protection plate. 

Alt-Wien' model door fittings 

in brass-PVD 

All 'Alt-Wien' 900 model interior 

door fittings according to ÖNORM 

are now supplied with the abrasion- 

and corrosion-resistant MS- 

PVD surface as standard instead 

of the MS finish. So far all strongly 

stressed parts like house doors and 

burglar-proof doors of the ZAL/ZEL 

series were already manufactured 

with this finish. 

Conversion of the lock surfaces: 

from GP to VZ 

Due to the harmful effects of Cr (VI) 

compounds in the galvanic surface 

treatment on health, all lock series, 

the corresponding locking plates 

as well as the insertion rods and 

window pulls from the window product 

range, are converted from GP 

surface to blue galvanised (VZ) and/ 

or Niro Look (NL) in a smooth transitional 

period. 

This conversion is a significant 

contribution to the protection of 

environment and workplace safety.

the application areas commercial and residential 

building. 

The GEOS brand – Commercial building fittings 

from door stop to lever handle, EN 1906, use class 4, 

the ball bearing handles at least 1.000.000 times of 

open-close movements, guarantee period of 5 years 

GEOS stands for GEOmetric design and safety 

and since its introduction in 1973, has developed 

into a synonym for functional and top quality 

commercial building fittings. The strengths of the 

brand is the top class bearing and the numerous 

application potentials of a design - from fire retardant 

through anti-panic up to anti-burglary. Besides 

the popular round tube models, a variety of freeform 

designs of Austrian designers have also been 

available for long in the product range. 

The WG4 brand – Commercial building fittings, 

EN 1906, use class 4, the bearing handles at least 

200.000 times of open-close movements, guarantee 

period of 2 years 

Nearly all GEOS lever handle models are available 

with the WG4-bearing, as well. 

The WG brand – from the elegant interior door till 

the anti-burglary exterior range tested in compliance 

with EN 1906 (available in the use classes 2, 3 and 4 

according to security requirement). 

Residential building fittings from Grundmann 

are offered in 3 groups - Classic, Basic and Home 

Office. So you find fittings like the legendary model 

Elegant from the Viennese Wilhelminian period and 

also the designs of contemporary designers like 

Gottfried Palatin, Michael Schaefer or Wolfgang 

Hints. 

For the protection of the entrance area, several 

anti-burglary series are available and can of course 

be combined with all handle shapes. This flexibility 

is one of the strongest features of the WG brand. 

The TAC brand – stands for Transponder Access 

Control, a contactless, battery-operated access control, 

packaged in sophisticated design. 

TAC was designed and developed mainly for the 

office and hotel sector and so is the ideal supplement

The opportunity to participate in shaping part of 

our daily culture is both natural for a manufacturer 

of fittings and it is also a challenge. This is 

why Grundmann has cultivated a long-standing 

tradition of close collaboration with designers. 

A look at the past: Between 1950 and 1970 Ernst 

Oskwarek was responsible for graphics and product 

design as Grundmann‘s creative all-round genius. 

In 1957 he designed the Favorit model that became 

the bestseller of the following decade. Ernst Oskwarek 

also participated in the development of our commercial 

building GEOS product line. 

In 1966, Count Sigvard Bernadotte, the long-time 

owner of the largest design firms in Copenhagen 

and Stockholm, a top designer in today‘s parlance, 

designed the models Kungsholm and Gripsholm. 

This design convinces us even today, which is 

stamped by the formal reduction of Scandinavian 

modernity. 

Since the early 90‘s we have built up a new product 

line in collaboration with Austrian designers. 

It has always been our declared goal to introduce 

fittings to the market that are not trendy but rather 

modern, in the sense of sustainable formal quality. 

Not all of these designs are still listet in our catalogue, 

nevertheless we are still proud about these 

cooperations. 

Stefan Zinell for example: he designed a contemporary 

interpretation of a rustic fitting: His redefinition 

of the term «rustic», which does not remain in 

retro design, but rather establishes intelligent references 

to the traditions of our daily culture. 

The fruitful collaboration with the Vienna designer 

Michael Schaefer commenced in 1991. Among 

other things he designed the Servus model for us, 

which was awarded the coveted iF design prize. He 

also designed the TAC-rose, which attracts a lot of 

interest. 

Gottfried Palatin, another Austrian designer, inspired 

us with new forms and the high art of traditional 

handcraft: The lever handles Palatin and 1500 

GEOS that he modeled nestle formally in the hand 

in their harmonious workmanship. His designs have 

also won awards. 

Wolfgang Hints created among others the 

models Lilly, Sissy and Felix for the basic group. In 

the process he had to survive the difficult tightrope 

walk to find generally pleasing shapes and at the 

same time to design not highly elaborate, but simply 

well-designed everyday products. 

We also marked out design areas on every aspect 

of the door with Austrian designers. The Viennese 

designer and calligrapher Veronika Kyral once designed 

a key rack for Grundmann. 

In the current product range you will find the door 

stop 1737 by Michael Schaefer and the wardrobe 

hook 6230 designed for our company by the architect 

Michael Wagner in the mid 1990s.

Standards for fittings | ÖNORM EN 1906 

ÖNORM EN 1906 - Use category 

ÖNORM EN 1906 governs the basic requirements for fittings throughout 

Europe. In Austria ÖNORM B 5340, which governs dimensions and additional 

definitions, has been reworked as an extension. 

Use categories of ÖNORM EN 1906 

In ÖNORM EN 1906 the load capacity of door fittings is divided into the following 

four use categories (cited from the standard text): 

Class 1 

Average use frequency by persons who are motivated to great care and from 

whom a low risk of incorrect application can be assumed, e.g. interior doors 

of apartment buildings. 

Class 2 

Medium use frequency by persons who are motivated to care, however 

there is a certain risk of incorrect application, e.g. interior doors in office 

buildings. 

Class 3 

Frequent use by the public or other persons with low motivation for care 

and with whom a high risk of incorrect application exists, e.g. doors in office 

buildings . 

Class 4 

For use in doors that are frequently subject to the application of force and 

property damage, e.g. soccer stadiums, on oil drilling platforms, in barracks 

or public lavatories. 

GRUNDMANN fittings are tested in accordance with 

ÖNORM EN 1906

Fire-resistant fittings in accordance with ÖNORM B 3859 

must correspond to use category 3 of ÖNORM EN 1906. 

An important feature of commercial and public sector fittings is the rotatable 

handle suspension with a plate, a rosette or a support construction in 

order to better accommodate the tensile load of the handle connection. 

Moreover in ÖNORM EN 1906 a test of handle fittings for „tensile load 

of special fittings for increased security“ is optionally provided. Our GEOS 

fittings for commercial and public sector buildings are tested for increased 

security. 

Only door handle fittings that satisfy this requirement should be mounted 

at points where there is an increased hazard of falling, e.g. for doors at 

the top of cellar stairways or other stairways. 

In addition this test also provides information as to whether the fitting can 

withstand the effects of various forms of vandalism. 

In addition to the complete test cycle, the manufacturer voluntarily subjects 

the fitting to a tensile test with a force of 2 500 N .

Fittings standards | ÖNORM B 3859, DIN 18273FS, fire-resistant fittings 

Fire-resistant doors are tested in Austria in accordance with ÖNORM EN 

1634-1 and ÖNORM B 3850. Fittings that are used on these doors must be 

manufactured in a manner that is fire-resistant and that satisfies door standard 

ÖNORM B 3850 and ÖNORM B 3859. 

In the European fittings standard ÖNORM EN 1906 in the version that was 

valid when the catalogue went to press (November 2005) a CE mark and 

registration were not yet provided (these are currently being reworked), 

consequently for registration, the valid national standards for fire-resistant 

fittings apply. 

We differentiate the following models for fittings 

→ not fire-resistant 

→ fire-resistant in accordance with ÖNORM B 3859 with fire-resistant insert 

in the plate or rose, however without steel insert in the handle. 

→ fire-resistant in accordance with DIN 18273 FS with fire-resistant insert 

in the plate or rose and steel insert in the handle (with 9 mm square pin) 

Structure of fire-resistant handle fittings 

An important characteristic of fire-resistant fittings is the steel insert in the 

plate or in the rose, to prevent the door leaf from burning through. This is 

also stipulated in the standards ÖNORM B 3859 und DIN 18273FS. 

The difference between handle fittings tested in accordance with ÖNORM B

For handles made of a material with a melting point less than 1000°C (e.g. 

aluminium) a fire-resistant steel insert is not provided. However there must 

be a handle connection (= in the form of a steel handle pin) available, which 

prevents the door leaf from burning through.

For handles made of a material with a melting point less than 1000°C (e.g. 

aluminium) a fire-resistant steel insert must be incorporated. 

All fire-resistant fittings are identified in the catalogue, as well as in the 

price list with a flame symbol and with a standard designation – „Tested 

in accordance with ÖNORM B 3859“ / „Tested in accordance with DIN 

18273FS“.

Fittings | Materials, Maintenance 

Aluminium 

Aluminum is a light metal and can be cast in moulds or 

rolled in sheets to the finest foils. 

We offer aluminum fittings in the surfaces, polished 

aluminum (POL), as well as in the anodized surfaces, 

satined aluminum silver anodized (F1-SAT) and anodized 

aluminum German silver (F2). 

Polished aluminum 

Polished aluminum fittings are ground and then polished 

to a high gloss after the casting process, or after 

the shaping process in the case of sheets, and we work 

with increasingly fine grinding and polishing wheels 

to achieve a texture depth that is as low as possible. 

The surface becomes smooth and glossy through this 

process. 

Aluminum surfaces polished to a high gloss form a 

natural oxidation coating (matte grey color) after longer 

use that protects the surface (except from mechanical 

effects). 

Anodized aluminum 

ELECTROLYTIC OXIDATION of ALUMINIUM 

For anodized oxidation of aluminum, also referred to 

as the eloxal process, the surface of the aluminum 

workpiece is converted to an oxide coating in an electrochemical 

process. This coating can be defined in its 

thickness and makes products treated in this manner 

wear-resistant and resistant to corrosion, which is not 

the case with polished aluminum surfaces. In addition 

it also allows the possibility of implementing colors (for 

our F1-SAT, F2 fittings). 

However the surface of aluminum fittings with 

polished or anodized surfaces can be mechanically 

damaged in daily use by harder materials. Scratches 

from rings or key chains are often the cause of damage. 

Under some circumstance such damage to the aluminum 

surface can impair the appearance; however it 

cannot impair the function of the fitting. 

Powder coated aluminum 

Powder coating is an environmentally friendly process. 

The powder coating is applied through electrostatic 

charging. In the subsequent burn in process the 

powder particles are networked at a temperature 

of approximately 200°C. After cooling the surface is 

immediately ready for use. Due to the system-based 

higher coating thickness there is good resistance to 

mechanical stress. 

All of our fittings can be powder coated in standard 

RAL colors (see page 27), as well as in other RAL colors. 

Brass 

Brass fittings are manufactured in the forging or 

casting process. A precisely defined copper-zinc alloy 

ensures high quality. 

Untreated brass surfaces tend to quickly develop a 

patina, which is why we offer our brass fittings in the 

finish „Brass high gloss polished and enameled“ with 

the catalogue designation „MS“. In this regard however 

we must point out that particularly outdoors, due to 

weather influences and mechanical damage, the paint 

coat can be damaged. Consequently we also offer the 

surface finish „Brass high-gloss polished unpainted“ 

(„MS-N“) as an alternative, which develops a much 

desired patina or „Brass zirconium nitride“ („MS-PVD) 

that is virtually indestructible. 

In the version „Brass high-gloss polished unpainted“ 

(„MS-N“) the surface is given a tarnish prevention 

treatment for delivery. This is similar to a transparent 

lacquer; however it can be easily removed. To remove 

this coating, moisten a soft cloth with solvent and wipe 

off the fitting so that no sealing remnants remain. Now 

the fitting can form a uniform patina. 

PVD hard coatings 

With our polished brass fittings (MS-POL) and polished 

stainless steel fittings (E-POL) we offer you the possibility 

of a PVD hard coating. 

We use a cathodic sputtering process supported in a 

magnetic field to apply coatings with extreme bonding 

strength that are particularly resistant to corrosion and 

oxidation. 

The versions, brass zirconium nitride coated (MS- 

PVD), and stainless steel PVD brass color coated (E-MS- 

PVD), are examples of these highly abrasion resistant 

hard coatings that are particularly well suited for 

outdoor implementation, thanks to their UV-resistance 

and resistance to corrosion. 

Stainless steel 

Stainless steel as a material is outstanding for door 

fittings and window pulls, both indoors and outdoors, 

due to its resistance to corrosion. 

Stainless steel fittings are particularly well suited 

for all high traffic doors, such as those in public buildings, 

hospitals, schools, kindergartens, or in sport 

facilities. Even under the heaviest continuous use the 

material hardly abrades at all, nor does it show traces 

of mechanical damage, such as scratches and impact. 

Due to the alloy components nickel and chrome, fittings 

made of stainless steel are very easy to maintain. 

A chrome-nickel steel is used for WG fittings with a 

material quality in accordance with DIN 17 440, material 

no. 1.4301 for lever handles, backplates, and roses. 

Maintenance instructions 

Our fittings are generally maintenance-free. 

We recommend to retight all attachment screws 

and to control the attachment screw of the lever handle 

after 4–6 weeks or before putting into service. You 

can compensate a decrease of the door leafs (in case 

of wooden doors) as well as mounting tolerances or 

bracings (loosenings). 

Likewise we also recommend you to check the 

firm seating of the screws once or twice a year, and 

to tighten them if necessary. 

Agents 

To maintain fittings we recommend that only mild 

cleaning agents (e.g. suds) are used. In no case should 

aggressive cleaning agents, scouring powders, solvents 

or thinners be used. 

Additionally we recommend you to check all fastening 

screws including those of the lever handle and to 

tighten if necessary. 

Mounting 

Correct mounting can only be guaranteed when using 

our drilling templates (see accessory program).

Precise boreholes provide support for the mounting 

components and therefore the entire fitting. Mounting 

is faster and also less expensive. Drilling templates are 

delivered in a plastic case and, for easier identification,

If fittings are used for door leafs that exceed the 

guidelines of the ÖNORM B 5330 and B 3850 in their 

dimensions and requirements, and therefore fall in the

Product Specification | classification 

GEOS commercial fittings have a twist mount 

bearing and are suitable for use in wood, metal, 

glass and metal frame doors. They are tested in 

accordance with ÖNORM EN 1906 and conform 

to the requirements of use category 4. 

→ All models are available tested for fire resistance in 

accordance with DIN 18273FS and ÖNORM B 3859. 

→ The majority of the models can also be used in 

emergency escape doors in accordance with EN 179. 

Please also take the notes on the individual products 

into account. 

→ The fittings are marked «GEOS», on fire resistant 

fittings the fire-resistance marking is located on the 

fire-resistant cover of the support structure.

GEOS-fittings 

GEOS commercial fittings generally include a ball bearing. 

By this we mean a twisting handle mount with the 

plate and/or with the rose and the substructure in order 

to be better able to absorb tensile load that is exerted 

on the handle connection. GEOS commercial fittings 

are of high quality and are very well suited for use in 

situations with unusually high load factors, such as in 

schools, hospitals or authority offices. 

→ All GEOS commercial fittings are designed as a 

female element on both sides. 

→ The handle pin is simple to exchange. This enables 

easy and exact adjustment to the actual thickness of 

the door leaf. 

→ The door thickness is usually 38mm – 43 mm; special 

door thicknesses must be stated. 

WG4-fittings 

WG4 commercial fittings are equipped with a commercial 

mounting in the form of a metal plain bearing. The 

handle is equipped with a firmly pivoted circlip.

Area of use 

For specialist solutions: radiation protection doors | construction without obstacles | 

corrosion risk 

Area of use «radiation protection doors» 

ÖNORM S 5210 regulates the requirements for radiation protection doors. A 

specialist lock with two nuts and two cylinder penetrations is used because 

of the lead plates that are installed. We can offer our GEOS half fittings 

especially for this lock, mounted displaced from one another on the door 

leaf and individually on each side. This arrangement of lock and fitting prevents 

radiation passing through the door leaf when installed correctly. GEOS 

half handle fittings with a counterbracing pin 248 are used, as it is not permitted 

to drill or screw through the door leaf. The screws only on the rebate 

side are usually a problem (there is often only a wood thickness of 5mm - 6 

mm available). For this reason we offer you rosette fittings with a special 

screw system against a counterplate with integrated M4 screws. The exact 

arrangement of the half handle fittings can be seen in this sketch. 

Model 1700 GEOS - Area of use «corrosion risk» 

Special requirements for stainless steel 

Corrosion risk exists everywhere where the support structure of the fitting 

can come into contact with aggressive, corrosive liquids or vapour. In 

tunnels, for example the saliferous atmosphere can have an effect on the 

fittings and during cleaning of tunnels or slaughterhouses the cleaning 

materials can have a destructive effect on the material. Another example 

can be found in swimming pools, the chlorine atmosphere which can also 

cause damage, as can the use of fittings near the coast. 

We can offer the stainless steel fitting model 1700 GEOS in the following 

qualities: 

→ door handle in accordance with DIN 17 440, material no. 1.4301 (SUS 

304, V2A), 

→ for plates and/or rosettes material no. 1.4307 (SUS 304, V2A) 

e.g. in the finishes E-POL or E-PVD 

Further important product specifications in the case of corrosion risk are as

Construction without obstacles is regulated in ÖNORM B 1600 and 

ÖNORM B 1601. Opening doors is often an obstacle that is difficult to overcome 

for people with special needs, children or people with a short-term

This is why we offer fittings for handicapped persons. A specialist WC

EN 179 and EN 1125 

For emergency escape and panic bolt 

Both standards are in effect for bolting systems in emergency escape and 

emergency services routes since April 1st, 2003. Where emergency escape 

bolts were used primarily in earlier times these were falsely termed panic 

bolts, the two new standards both differentiate between emergency escape 

and panic bolts. There are: 

→ Emergency escape bolts, which are regulated in accordance with EN 179 

and 

→ Panic bolts, which are regulated in EN 1125. 

Both standards only, however, regulate the regulations and tests of the corresponding 

bolt systems as well as their CE markings and do not provide any 

information on the condition of the emergency escape route and the corresponding 

doors. These requirements are each prescribed by the authorities, 

who must also determine which of the two systems should be used. When in 

doubt we always specify fittings in accordance with DN 1125. 

A mutual inspection and certification of the lock and the fitting is necessary 

in order to ensure that the operating forces are achieved. The unity of 

the parts must be clearly recognizable in the manufacturer’s documents, e.g. 

with number code or similar. 

In principle we can state: panic bolts can be used as emergency escape 

bolts but emergency escape bolts are not suitable for use as panic bolts! 

The screws on the fitting elements are to be executed throughout. 

The assembly accessories such as fixing screws and door handle pins are 

part of the bolt unit and thus also part of the inspection.

Area of use «emergency escape» 

Emergency escape bolts in accordance with EN 179 are for use in emergency 

escape doors in buildings that do not have public traffic as a rule and the 

visitors of which know the function of the emergency escape doors.

emergency escape doors in public buildings where the visitors do not know

Inspired by the intense construction activity of 

our new State Capital St. Pölten, we commissioned 

Michael Schaefer to design a commercial 

building fitting. He presented a design where 

the basic idea is characterized by a round neck 

resting within itself that transitions to a flat 

sympathetic handle with an end that has been 

pressed into an oval. This gives the lever handle 

a tapering dynamic swing to the door.

We added this model to our product line in the 

early seventies at the suggestion of a Swiss 

customer. Because the Swiss Railways used 

a very similar model, it became known as the 

“Swiss Railways door lever”. The form became 

famous through a concept by the architect Max 

Bill, who further developed this design for the 

Ulm College of Art.

Usually the builder’s desire is to use a single 

model of lever handle throughout the entire 

building. Regardless of whether these are fireprotection 

doors, escape doors, or profile frame 

doors – application areas that are really quite 

different and that impose strict measures on the 

door furniture. The Series Z enables adaptation 

of standard forms for profile frame doors. The 

outlet part is an Z-shaped neck piece in the problem 

area near the metal frame, which then can 

further transport the desired form in the handle. 

The standard lever handle can be inserted on the 

non-dangerous sloping side.

GEOS / WG4 

New manufacturing technologies also permit 

stainless steel fittings; for some time these were 

considered to represent a breaking away from 

conventional form specifications. Inspired by the 

intense construction activity of our new State 

Capital St. Pölten, we commissioned Michael 

Schaefer to design a commercial building fitting. 

He presented a design where the basic idea is 

characterized by a round neck resting within 

itself that transitions to a flat sympathetic handle 

with an end that has been pressed into an oval. 

This gives the lever handle a tapering dynamic 

swing to the door.

this is a simple description of the Model 2200.

Model 2500

An L-shaped mitred and welded round tube 

made of stainless steel is probably the most 

timeless of all forms and presumably this is why 

it is also so popular with architects. 

Stylistically this model that is distributed 

throughout the industry can be considered as 

«Early Modern». Thus it is the most modern 

of the classic lever handles. Since this form is 

shaped with such purity special value must be 

placed on execution of the details. Particular 

value is placed on a precise weld seam in the 

mitre and a cleanly worked lever handle end. 

And because the provisions for escape doors 

sensibly require a handle end that is bent back 

to the door, we have added the model 2500N to

security aspect. Knobs offer less grasping 

surface than do lever handles and they can injure 

the fingers when closing the door. That is why all

WG residential building fittings have a mounted, 

non-turning polyamide bearing of usage class 2 

and 3 (in the fire resistant version) in accordance 

with EN 1906.

Elegant 

Originally, the turn of the century model Elegant 

was produced in brass by the so-called ‚Wiener 

Gelbgießer‘. In 1933 Grundmann started the 

industrial production of this model which was 

taken over by the subsidiary in Arad (Romania). 

There it continued to sell well, particulary in the 

former crown states. After WW2, it was only 

available in aluminium until the renovation of 

the Karl-Marx Höfe at the start of the 80s when it 

was once again produced in brass and used both 

for renovations and for use in modern residential 

construction. With this checkered history, 

this ‚Evergreen‘ model is still sought after by 

architects and private customers. The growing 

demand for silver surfaces was met with the 

model 552/562mH POL 


design being produced in polished aluminium, 

brass chrome plated and brass chrome plated 

satin finish.

Model 600 

Standard 

Stylistically, this model originates from the 

so-called ‚early-modern‘ period of the 20s and 

30s. Similar forms can be found in the Viennese 

buildings of that period. Sadly, we do not know 

who developed the Standard design. Wilh. 

Grundmann included it in the production range 

in 1951. Of particular significance is the plate 

with four screws, one of the most beautiful on 

the market and perfectly designed for refurbishments 

which need to be elegant and representative. 

An example can be seen in the newly renovated 

Hofimmobiliendepot in Vienna. The design 

in polished aluminium is particulary suited for a 

completely different application area, modern 

residential buildings.

Our brief to the designers was to create a model 

that can be produced as economically as possible, 

with a form for right-handed and left-handed 

parts and for window furniture. Gottfried Palatin 

brilliantly mastered the assigned task. The model 

lives in the tension between round and straight 

forms and it is perfect solution from the front as 

well viewed from the top.

This model is one of the most successful designs 

of the Viennese “Gründerzeit” (Age of Promotorism) 

and the brass foundries produced it in 

countless variants and sizes. 100 years later this 

form was rediscovered with the brass boom

900 Alt-Wien is the second lever handle model in

Model 1000 

Favorit 

In 1957 Ernst Oskwarek designed the Favorit 

model that became one of the greatest sales 

successes in the history of our company. In its 

heyday it enjoyed a market share of close to 

80% of the Austrian market – a success story 

that is almost inconceivable today in light of 

the differentiated product offering. However 

it is not just the market conditions that were 

different in those days. The model Favorit was 

pure Zeitgeist; it represented the so-called «2nd 

Modern» of the post war era. As unbelievable as 

it sounds: Advertisements advised customers to 

remove the Alt-Wien model and to screw on the 

silver Favorit model with its streamlined form. 

Of course today we would never come up with 

that kind of ad copy. Nevertheless this form has 

become current again with the revival of designs 

model 1052/1062 POL 




from the 50s and 60s.

Model 1100 

Servus 

The boom in residential building in the early 

90s in Vienna inspired us, in collaboration with 

Michael Schaefer, to give some thought to an 

aluminum fitting with the working name of 

«Freundschaft» (Friendship). The result was the 

Model 1100 that was eventually given the Austrian 

greeting «Servus» as its name. Characteristic 

for this lever handle is its diagonally positioned, 

elliptical cross-section that swings out from door 

in a generous contour and then tapers to a radial 

turn. When grasped this special form communicates 

a feel that is similar to a good handshake.

Model 2100 

City 

New manufacturing technologies also permit 

stainless steel fittings; for some time these were 

considered to represent a breaking away from conventional 

form specifications. The designer used 

the new possibilities and presented a concept that 

convinced all of us straightaway: The basic idea 

was characterized by a round neck resting within 

itself that transitions to a flat sympathetic handle 

with an end that has been pressed into an oval. This 

gives the lever handle a tapering dynamic swing 

to the door.

Integer 

An L-shaped mitred and welded round tube made 

of stainless steel is probably the most timeless of all 

forms and presumably this is why it is also so popular 

with architects. We have carried this design 

in our product line since 1995; stylistically this 

model that is popular throughout the industry can 

be considered «Early Modern». Thus it is the most

→ Anti-drilling protection in cylinder area 

Protective steel plates (manganese steel or surface 

hardened steel) make it more difficult to drill in the 

vicinity of the cylinder. 

→ Counterplate 

The counterplate serves as a counter-bearing and 

is screwed to the exterior plate from the inside. This 

makes it more difficult to dismantle the exterior 

plate. 

→ Plug protection plate 

The plug protection plate completely covers the 

cylinder and only leaves the key slot free. 

(Series ZA-K, ZA3-K, ZAR-K, ZAS-K and VS-K) 

→ Shell structure 

The shell structure makes it possible to design the 

external plates to be optically appealing while still 

using the tried and tested protective plates. 

→ Cylinder sawing protection 

The cylinder sawing protection on the reverse of the 

protection plate makes it more difficult to saw off 

the cylinder using a flat saw between door leaf and 

protection fitting. (Series ZAL/ZEL) 

→ Cylinder cover 

A long cylinder cover offers good support for the 

cylinder and makes it more difficult to break the 

cylinder off. A protruding drum of up to 3mm is possible 

according to the Austrian standard and does 

not represent a security risk!

Resistance Classes | Standards 

Burglary tests are carried out on door elements in ENV 

1627. Furthermore the protection aims for anti-burglary 

fittings and locks must be fulfilled in accordance with 

the standards appendix. 

The resistance classes are defined as follows: 

Door resistance class WK 1 

→ Anticipated type of attack: basic protection against 

attempts to enter with physical violence such as 

kicking, jumping against the door, shouldering (primarily 

vandalism), low protection against the use of 

levering tools. 

→ Resistance time: no manual test 

→ Recommended use: basic security 

Apartment doors with low burglary resistance 


→ Anticipated type of attack: opportunist perpetrators 

also try to break in to the locked and bolted unit 

using simple tools such as screwdrivers, pliers and 

trowels. 

→ Resistance time: 3 minutes 

→ Recommended use: standard security 

Apartment doors and house doors with normal risk 


→ Anticipated type of attack: the perpetrator also 

tries to break open the locked and bolted unit using 

a second screwdriver and a crowbar. 


→ Recommended use: raised security 

Apartment doors and house doors at high risk 


→ Anticipated type of attack: the experienced perpetrator 

uses additional sawing and hammering tools 

such as a bearded axe, mortise chisel, hammer and 

chisel and a battery operated drill.

Resistance classes in fitting standards 

Anti-burglary windows, doors and additional entries 

are regulated in ÖNORM B 5338. 

Anti-burglary fittings are regulated in ÖNORM B 

5351. 

The resistance classes in the fitting standards are 

exactly equivalent to the door resistance classes. 

For anti-burglary door elements in accordance with 

ÖNORM B 5338 and/or VORNORM ENV 1627 protective 

fittings must be tested in accordance with ÖNORM B 

1906 and fulfil the criteria of ÖNORM B 5351 according 

to table 4. 

The performance requirements for the door plates 

are determined in ÖNORM EN 1906, Appendix A, Table 

A.1 «Requirements for protective fittings for anti-burglary

Backplate 5800 

The price-conscious aluminium ZAM series 

consists of an exterior backplate screw fastened 

from the inside in which a hardened anti-drilling 

safeguard is embedded. It was developed especially 

for apartment building doors and can be 

combined with all aluminum fittings in our product 

line. And due to the narrow backplate width 

there is another totally different application area: 

The ZAM series can also be used for anti-burglary

With variant R you have the traditional peephole 580 

in a non fire-resistant version, the climate-resistant 

and fire-resistant peephole 582 is supplied in the RT 

variant. For arbor doors, or if there is possibility of 

condensation (different climates inside/outside) we 

recommend using the peephole 582, i.e. the climateresistant 

variant of the peephole! 

The peephole 582 is tested in accordance with 

ÖNORM EN 1121 (climate C-extended test of 28 

days/interior temp. + 23°C/ exterior temp. + 3°C, 

and climate D-24 hour test/interior temp. +23°C/

Wardrobe Hook 

GEOS 

Often a wardrobe hook must handle a lot of 

stress. Even more so if it wants to be included 

in the family of solid GEOS products. This hook 

has been designed to be appropriately stable. An 

eye catcher and functional covering of the install 

area is provided in the form of a plastic rose 

that is available in the colours black, anthracite, 

blue, and white. If desired the rose can also be 

imprinted with corporate logos, and thus it can 

be integrated in a corporate design concept. The 

hooks can either be installed individually or as a 

4-hook set on a stainless steel panel.

ÖNORM EN 12209 governs the basic requirements for 

locks throughout Europe. 

Dimensions and additional requirements are stipulated 

in ÖNORM B 5330. 

The standard provides an 11-digit classification key to 

help the user in selecting the right lock implementation. 

For our locks please refer to positions 1-4 and 7 of the 

classification key in accordance with ÖNORM EN 12209,

For locks with automatic latch: 

When using an electric door opener strike plate, 

in order to prevent any problems, we do not 

recommend the use of a stop latch. 

For locks with latch lever: 

Check the smooth movement of the latch. High 

pressure of the door seal on the latch can highly 

restrict the operation of the latch lever with the 

keys.

Locks with Crank Latch 

Functioning 

The crank lifter presses the latch already back while touching the strike 

plate. Therefore the door closing force is reduced as well as the noise 

while closing the door. The latch closes without operating the lever 

handle. We recommend especially the combination of locks wih crank 

latches together with door closers. 

→ Crank latches are offered for series 300K and 400K 

→ Locks with crank latch series 300 are suited for private standard doors 

up to a recommended door weight of 40 kg (maximum allowed door 

weight 100 kg) 

→ For commercial and public sectors we recommend locks with 

crank latches series 400K and 450K, they are suited for an application 

on doors up to a door weight of 100 kg (maximum door weight 

200 kg). 

→ Both locks can be changed at any time into other locks of the same 

series (e.g. series 400 can be changed into series 400K or series 

300 can be changed into series 300K). Backfitting on existing doors is 

possible as well. (A small reoperation in the sector of the crank latch 

guarantees faultless functioning – see sketch). 

→ Mounting advice 

The lock has to be restemmed in the sector of the latch near 

the crank lifter in order to guarantee a faultless functioning.

Locks with Clamping Follower 

Frequently lever handles wobble on new doors, because of a play 

between the lever handle spindle and the lock follower. Even if the 

lock and the fittings are mounted exactly according to the producers 

specifications and even if the dimensions of the lock follower 

amd the lever handle spindle correspond with the standards, this 

play cannot be avoided. The play even becomes bigger when the 

dimensions of the lock follower are situated in the above and the 

dimensions of the lever handle spindle are situated in the below 

tolerance sector. 

This play of tolerances is defined exactly in the ÖNORM EN 1906 

and allows for example for fittings (of category of use 3+4) a free 

movement of the corners up to 5 mm at the end of a lever handle 

of 75 mm length (that means up to 7 mm für a lever handle length 

of 140 mm, e.g. lever handle model GEOS 1754). 

→ Locks with the new clamping follower, which is integrated 

without surplus and as standard into the series 400 und 451, 

guarantee a functioning of the lock without any play. This play 

between the lever handle spindle and the lock follower is 

balanced by the clamping follower. 

Please note: 

Compensating bushes for lever handle spindles are not suited 

for locks with clamping followers!

Locks with CE-marking 

According to directive 89/106/EWG of the European Union Council, the 

construction products that fulfill the specifications of this construction 

products directive can be put in circulation only with a CE mark. 

Construction products are building materials, components and systems 

which are manufactured to be integrated permanently in structurally 

identical systems of civil engineering. 

The Austrian standard EN 12209 is a harmonized standard and hence is 

also subject to the construction products directive. For this reason, fireresistant 

locks tested according to Austrian standard EN 12209 are to be 

provided with a CE mark 

For GRUNDMANN, the type designation for the EC certificate of conformity 

is 1359 - CPD - 0014. 

All mortise locks of the series 400 are therefore provided with the CE mark 

and the No. 1359 on the front plate. Every lock of this type is in addition 

provided with a label on the lock case, where the certification key according 

to the Austrian standard EN 12209 is also visible.

MVS 900 

The multi point security lock MVS 900 is the 

product in our product line that offers the greatest 

fascination for those who take particular 

pleasure in technology and security. A small 

gear meshes with another gear and guarantees 

that the lock’s spring bolt retraction can be 

easily opened. The only drawback is that this 

technical wonder cannot be seen when the lock 

is installed, and this is why lay people frequently 

forget to lock up. A MVS 900 can really only perform 

to the level of its ability and securely anchor 

the door in the door frame, in its locked state.

1. Entry and exit roads of the premises 

An intelligent barrier control provides safety in 

underground garages and outdoor car parks. The 

card functions like an identity card. 

2. Main entrance 

Outside the general opening hours, one can 

provide regulated access to the main entrance 

after confirming the authorisation. It is locked 

automatically and with time control. 

3. Time recording terminal 

This terminal guarantees a swift and efficient 

recording of working hours coupled with individual 

employee information for the HR Infocentre. 

The read/write function is also integrated here. 

4. Storage depots 

Cupboards and lockers can be similarly operated 

with the same TAC card. No additional key is 

required for locking this depot. 

5. Interior doors made of wood or glass 

TAC also organises the access control of wirefree 

interior doors. Electronic offline locks are 

integrated here. 

Commercial fittings for all

Grundmann Beschlagtechnik is a tradition-rich 

manufacturer of high-end commercial fittings. 

These can be combined with a GEOS ball bearing 

or a WG4 metal plain bearing.

be opened from the inside anytime without

Locking media 

Mostly the chip is welded in a card. It can also be 

integrated in any plastic keychain. Coins are preferred 

in the wellness sector, which are clipped on 

the bracelet. And renowned watchmakers additionally 

offer a large selection of watches with integrated 

transponder chip. 

In a cabinet and cubicle lock for locking file 

cabinets or changing rooms, no additional key 

is required. The user can open doors as well as 

cabinets with one medium. And here too practical 

additional functions like an access restriction or the 

recording of the last opening operation can be used.

TAC offers you individual solutions to integrate modern 

technology into the building design either very

Access Control

Time recording terminal 

The time recording for payroll accounting can also 

be conducted with the access medium. The time 

recording terminal with connection to the access 

control also provides a reader with read/write function 

and can thus be integrated in full in the access 

control software. It can be used both for loading of 

information (e.g. validity period) and for reading the 

data (e.g. battery status of the battery unit) of the 

medium. 

The wall reader 

For all electrically operated doors 

(offline > virtual network > online) 

A fitting is not always intended for opening and 

closing. Ideally the locking medium should be used 

throughout a building as far as possible. For such 

cases, the TAC system offers an ideal supplement: a 

wall reader. 

In the outdoor area, the reader is located in a flushmounted 

socket. The evaluation electronics itself is 

housed in the protected inner side. 

The wall reader is wired to the lock in the door.

Discretion sets the tone 

The TAC «privacy» function replaces the wellknown 

«Do not disturb» card and has been specially 

developed for the hotel sector. 

There is a button on the inside of the guest room, 

which the guest can set on red, so that the hotel 

employees do not unintentionally disturb them. 

If, for instance, the chambermaid wants to access 

the door with her card, her access is denied. The 

employee can gain access in emergency only with 

the higher-ranking «first aid card».
