Mrs. Nellie Benge, age
82, of Pilot Mountain, widow
of the late Lonnie
William Benge, passed
away on Tuesday, September
9, 2010, at Forsyth
Memorial Hospital. Mrs.
Benge was born in Surry
County on December 26,
1927 to the late Coonie
Lester and Milner Johnson
Rogers.

Mr. Frank Goins, age 94,
of Winston-Salem, husband
of Ruth Goins, passed away
on Thursday, September 9,
2010 at Forsyth Medical
Center. Mr. Goins was born
in Surry County on May
13, 1916 to the late Robert
and Ella Goins.
HAMPTON
Mrs. Irene Ashby
Hampton, 93, died Monday
morning, September 13,
2010 at Kate B. Reynolds
Hospice Home.
She was born in March
22, 1917 in Stokes County
to Henry Oliver and Ida
Lou Manring Ashby. She
retired from AT & T. Mrs.
Hampton loved to baking,
sewing and making quilts.
She was always ready
whenever called upon.
A 2:00 pm funeral service
was held on Wednesday,
September 15, 2010 at
Rosebud Christian Church
with Pastor Bob Blackmore
and Pastor Leo Matthews
officiating. Burial will follow
in the Church Cemetery.
She was preceded in
death by her husband;
Marvin Odell Hampton, a
son; Donald Odell Hampton,
5 brothers; Posey,
Odell, Joel, Tommy and
Wayne Ashby, and 1 sister;
Little Annie.
She is survived by his 4
children; Joan H Cavanaugh
and husband
David of Walkertown, June
H. Vaughan and husband
George, Linda H White and
husband John, both of Winston-Salem
and Connie H.
Tetter of King, 11 grandchildren;
Keith, Blake,
Angie, Donald Colin, Dove,
Sabrina, Tonya, Dana,
Ronald, Randall and Rodney,
25 great grandchildren,
5 great-great grandchildren,
3 sisters; Ida Mae

Mary Hazelwood

Morris, 72, died Monday

Hospice Home.
She was born March 20,
1938 in Stokes County to
Joe Henry and Bertha
Dyson Bullins. Mrs. Morris
worked for Stoneville Furniture
Company. She was a
member of Victory Ministries
Church and loved to
fish.
A 2:00 pm funeral service
was held Wednesday,
September 15, 2010 at Burroughs
Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. Clayton
Smith officiating. Burial
followed in the Palmyra
United Methodist Church
Cemetery.
In addition to her parents,
she is preceded in
death by her husband; Paul
Morris, 1 daughter; Paula
Morris, 4 brothers; Chester,
Bill, Jay and John Henry
Bullins and 1 sister; Sarah
Jane Parrish.
She is survived by 1 son;

Fri., Sept. 17
Rummage/bake sale—The Snow
Hill United Methodist Women will hold
their annual rummage and bake sale
Sept. 17-18 (Friday, 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m.,
and Saturday, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.) at the
Lawsonville Community Center in Lawsonville.
It is “Everything you can get in
a bag” for $5 (bags provided by the
UMW) with the exception of new items,
large items and baked goods. All proceeds
will go to local missions.

Community yard sale—There will
be a large community yard sale at King
Christian Center, 995 Brown Road,
King, on Sept. 18 from 7 a.m.–until. Free
spaces are available. There will be plenty
of parking spaces for those selling and

GENERAL ELECTION NOTICE
The Stokes County Board of Elections hereby gives notice of a General
Election to be held on November 2nd 2010, for Federal, State, and
County offices. On the ballot there will also be a vote on a proposed
N.C. Constitutional Amendment providing that no person convicted of a
felony may serve as Sheriff.
This election will be held in all voting precincts in Stokes County with
polls opening at 6:30 AM and closing at 7:30 PM.
Written, No-Excuse absentee voting for the November 2nd election
will begin on Sept 17th for voting by mail. The deadline for making
written absentee application by mail is Oct. 26th at 5:00 PM.
No-Excuse, One-Stop absentee voting at the Board of Elections office
in Danbury will begin on October 14th and will end on Saturday, October
30th. Hours are 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday and
8:30 AM – 1:00 PM on Saturday, Oct. 30th.
No-Excuse, One-Stop absentee voting at the King Public Library and
Walnut Cove Fire Department will begin on Monday, October 25th and
end on Saturday, October 30th at 1:00 PM. Hours for these additional
one-stop sites are 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM Monday through Friday and
10:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Saturday, Oct. 30th.
The Board will meet on October 12th, 19tht, 26th at 5:00PM and on
November 1st at 4:00PM to approve absentee ballot applications.
If you are not registered to vote, you may pick up a mail-in form at
any library or call the Board of Elections office to have one mailed to you.
You must be registered by October 8th in order to vote in the November
2nd General Election.
Persons wishing to register and vote after the registration deadline may
appear in person at a one-stop absentee voting site, complete the voter
registration application form and provide proof of residence by presenting
valid documents showing current name and address.
