Arts and Sciences and
Commerce, Dr. Ramon del
Fierro, and Dr. Rene
Paquibut, respectively, and
the inter-college Committees
on Instruction, Faculty,

the supervision of the Vice-
President for Academic Affairs,
Fr. Felino Javines,
SVD.
The accreditation
team started off the day with
a perusal of exhibits prepared
by the Exhibit Committee
under the able leadership
of Dr. Marilou Tadlip,
Director of Libraries, and
herself a veteran PAASCU
accreditor. Classroom visits
were then made at several
locations in the Talamban
Campus. The morning was
wrapped up with a group
interview with the concerned
department heads from the
three colleges. Interviews
with key administrators
other than the department
heads were also conducted.
As is customary for these
visits, the team began preparing
their reports late in
the day and concluded their
visit afterwards. The University
of San Carlos community
eagerly awaits the
results of the interim visit all
in the spirit that this is but
part of a larger effort for
continuous improvement in
the University.

Teacher Training
The second day
was delegated to a workshop
titled ―Teacher Training
on History and Heritage.‖ Its
aim was to provide history
teachers a firm understanding
of the NHI‘s pre-eminent
role in conserving the country‘s
historical legacies as
well as give them fundamental
knowledge on the institute‘s
policies on the installation
of historical markers and
renaming of historic sites. A
number of experts from the
Materials Conservation Center
of the NHI in Manila also
introduced the participants to
basic methods in preserving
historical artifacts.
Teachers in the
field of history from various
educational institutions in the
Cebu province and in other
parts of the Visayas and
Mindanao attended the
workshop. Three faculty
members from the Department
of History were among
the participants.

then presented the opportunities
available to our
alumni in case they may be
interested to share something
to the University. Two
of those presented were the
Naming Rights and the upcoming
events of the Alumni
Office.
Not later than few
minutes after the presentation
of Prof. Largo, the Department
received its first
investment from Batch
1985, a sponsorship worth
Php 50, 000.00. Aside from
cash investment, Dr. Elizabeth
Remedio (Class of
1977) made an announcement
while delivering the
closing remarks that from
their batch cohort, Dr. Edna
Tan, is willing to lecture on
special topics in times she is
available in Cebu City.
In response, Mrs.
Ofelia Odilao-Bisnar (Class
of 1985) represented the
alumni in sharing their sentiments
with the Department.
She shared how grateful
they were to their alma mater.
She also presented her
batch and classmates which
had the highest percentage
of attendance.
After all the ceremonies,
a lively, ecstatic,
and fun fellowship followed
with everyone enjoying
every sway they made on
the dance floor.

said.
―Agak-Eskwela‖ was the first
lecture-and-workshop series of its kind
organized by the DOLL for its outreach
programs. With optimistic responses
from people involved, the
department is definitely looking forward
to organizing similar programs in
the future, hoping to reach out more
fully to the promising academic community
in Cebu City.
―Ang feedback gikan sa mga
participants kay very, very positive,‖
Villaflor said. ―Communicating with
other educators pinaagi sa mga programang
ingon ani is one effective
way nga makasiguro ta nga the future
of our students is in good hands.‖
The activity was organized
by the DOLL in cooperation with the
USC - Community Extension Services
Office, which is headed by CES Overall
Coordinator Mrs. Emma Estrella
Selma.
