Carolinians challenged to be Indispensable
Witnesses to the Word of God
by: Melvin C. Tampus, MA
The ReEd 10 students
held their co-curricular
activity Bible Enthronement
last July 31 at the St. Arnold
Janssen and St. Joseph
Freinademitz Church. The
students participated in
the celebration of the Holy
Eucharist wherein which
their Bibles were blessed
with holy water by the
priest-presider. This was
a solemn opportunity for
the students to consider
the relevance of the Word
of God into their lives as
Christians. The students
were made to realize
from the reading and
homily the truth proclaimed
in 2 Timothy 3:16-17:
"All scripture is inspired by
God and is useful for teaching
the truth, rebuking error,
correcting faults, and giving
instruction for right living,
so that the person who
Reed students during the Eucharistic Celebration at
St. Joseph Freinademetz Church
serves God may be fully
qualified and equipped to
do every kind of good
philosophy and religious studies
deed." Definitely, to use the
Bible is of vital importance as
St. Jerome (c. 345-420 C E),
a Doctor of Biblical Science,
puts it that ―Ignorance
of the Bible is ignorance
of Christ‖. The
ReEd students in
general are incessantly
reminded to:
read and study, meditate
upon, live out and
share the truths revealed
by the Holy
Triune God in the
Holy Scriptures. In
this modern time of
prevalent moral degeneration,Carolinians
are constantly
challenged to become authentic
Word‖.
ReEd Teachers in their Spiritual Journey with Jesus Christ
by: Melvin C. Tampus, MA
ReEd faculty having their annual Spiritual Retreat, June 3-5 at Sto. Nino
Spirituality Center, Tulotulo, Consolacion, Cebu
The ReEd faculty
ardently joined in their annual
Spiritual Retreat last June 3-5
at the distinctively beautiful
retreat house-- the Sto. Nino
Spirituality Center, Tulotulo,
Consolacion, Cebu. Their
competent and vivacious facilitator
was Fr. Valentino
Pinlac, STL, STD. He finished
his doctoral degree in Moral
Theology from Accademia
Alphonsiana, Rome, Italy and
Master in Bioethics from Faculty
of Medicine and Surgery,
Universitta Cattolica del
Sacro Coure, Rome, Italy. He
is the current parish priest of
San Antonio de Padua Parish
in Tagbilaran City. Fr.
―Val‖ explored ―The Four
Related Theological Movements‖
that superbly integrated
Classical Christology,
Ecclesiology, Sacramentology
and Soteriology.
He emphatically conveyed
the point that: ―Christ came
to us in his incarnation,
emptied himself and took
the form of a slave, gave
Himself to us in the Eucharist
as the nourishment for
our body and soul, and
promised us in His resurrec-
tion the life of a transformed
humanity.‖ The sharing consequently
contributed to our
knowledge on the following
themes: Incarnation of Jesus
Christ, Earthly Life and
Death of Christ, Institution of
the Eucharist and Resurrection
of Christ. The retreat
participants also availed of
the two important sacraments
of the Holy Eucharist
and Reconciliation providing
them essential divine graces
pertinent to their challenging
mission of unwavering evangelization.
The retreat positively
provided an integral
theological input that could
somehow deepen the information,
formation and transformation
of the individual
person.
Right after the retreat,
the ReEd faculty had
their department meeting
that communicated the plans
and activities for the coming
semester. Moreover, there
was an occasion for the
teachers to socialize through
Now, Dr. Ryan Urbano
by: Maria Majorie R. Purino, MA
Ryan
Urbano, a
tenured faculty
member
of the Department
of Philosophy,successfullydefended
his Dissertation titled God,
Religion, Atheism and Idolatry:
Interpreting Some Religious
Themes in Levinas’s Ethical Philosophy.
Dr. Urbano‗s study explores
the depth and the richness
of the ethical and religious philosophy
of Emmanuel Levinas. It
particularly examines his thoughts
on God, religion, atheism, and
idolatry in order to highlight his
significance in an age known as
postmodern, generally characterized
as secular and even godless.
This study has also ventured to
explicate how Levinas‘ thoughts
on religion can help address contemporary
issues on religious pluralism,
fundamentalism, and dialogue.
Dr. Urbano completed his
Masters in Philosophy in USC in
1998 and Masters in Applied Ethics
in Linköping University, Sweden
and Utrecht University, The
Netherlands in 2008. He is now
handling several subjects in Philosophy
both minor and major
subjects like Contemporary Philosophy
in the undergraduate and
the philosophy of Levinas in the
graduate school.
singing and dancing that supplemented
their relational enhancement.
―All glory to the Holy Triune
God‖ for that noteworthy retreat
that challenged the ReEd teachers
in their quest towards authentic
Christian holiness.
