COOKIES NOW!
GSCWM implements a “direct cookie sale.” What does that mean? Simply put – girls get
cookies in their hands and sell them through door-to-door sales, booth sales, and other
creative marketing ways. We’ve seen “walkabouts” where troops canvas a
neighborhood, drive-through cookie booths at safe and highly-visible parking lots, or
even a mobile cookie wagon where troops decorate a parent’s vehicle and go “where
the crowds are”. Girls are limited only by their imagination!
For our 2013 Cookie Program girls will have cookies available from January 18
through March 3. This provides for seven weekends and six weeks of selling time.
Will girls still have order cards? Absolutely! The order card is a great tool for a girl to use
to sell cookies and to manage her sale. Girls can visit her parent’s office or take the card
to school or church and ask people to buy cookies from her. Then, she simply takes the
card home, fills the orders from the cookies the troop has and delivers them to her
customers as quickly as the next day! This eliminates customers ordering cookies and
then waiting 4-5 weeks to receive them and allows troops to collect, deposit, and use
funds quicker.
SO HOW DOES THIS WORK?
1. Prior to Dec 9 troops need to meet to decide their cookie plans and
cookie goals. Maybe your troop wants to buy every member the
Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting handbook? Maybe your troop is working
on a community service project and the girls want to donate $300
towards the project? Maybe each girl wants to earn a free week at
summer camp? The possibilities are endless but this is the time for
troops to make those plans. See goal setting section in this manual
for assistance with this process.
2. Troops will place an “initial order commitment” by December 9. We
are recommending that each troop place an initial commitment for
at least 100 boxes per girl member of the troop. Cookie cupboards
will be open for troops to order and pick-up more cookies
throughout the sale.
3. Cookies will be delivered to Service Units the week of January 12-18,
troops will arrange for their pick-up that week and girls can begin
selling with the cookies in hand on January 18.
4. While we are certain that girls will be able to sell all of the initial order
cookies, we recognize that troops may feel unsure without having
their girls’ confirmed initial orders. Full, unopened cases of cookies
can be returned to a local cupboard from your initial order
commitment through February 5.
5. Additional cookies are available at cookie cupboards located
through GSCWM . Troops will place a “pending” order in ebudde in
order to get more cookies from the cupboards.
Research
shows that
consumers
will purchase
more cookies
when they
know what
goal the girls
are trying to
achieve.
Just as girls set goals and troops
set goals, GSCWM sets a goal.
This year GSCWM’s goal is to
have every girl sell 125 boxes (or
more!) of Girl Scout cookies!
This will help GSCWM achieve
the plans for 2013!
Every girl and every troop needs
to set a goal that will allow them
to achieve their plans for 2013!
