Community Comments and Ranking of Priorities March 1, 2011<br />
Following a brief introduction and review of the first Economic Development Focus Group community and stakeholder<br />
comments, the consulting team asked the focus group participants to provide a listing of desired economic development<br />
activities (short or long term). Each participant was given the opportunity to vote for two activities they would like to<br />
see for <strong>Hardee</strong> <strong>County</strong>. The activities included:<br />
• Attract corporate offices, management oriented, regional offices<br />
• Revitalize main street/historic core<br />
• Develop a community garden, (indoor) flea market (south of Ace Hardware on US 17)<br />
• Develop/expand <strong>Hardee</strong> Lakes Park (w/ cabins and additional facilities)<br />
• Expand Pioneer Days; add Ranch and Citrus tours<br />
• More restaurants and entertainment activities (movie, music, cafes)<br />
• Recruit trades/technical jobs<br />
• Eco-Tourism<br />
• Target industry(s) with needs for rail, high energy use<br />
• Sports/training complex (professional sports), including outdoor activities<br />
• Continue/expand agriculture (crops, technology)<br />
• Expand season residents opportunities<br />
• Agricultural support services<br />
• Trucking and distribution services<br />

Following the voting and ranking of activities, the participants were given the opportunity to expand on their votes and<br />
why they voted for certain activities. Participants were also given the opportunity to provide comments on what<br />
activities and actions were currently ongoing in the community that could be further supported and enhanced by these<br />
ideas.<br />
May 24, 2011<br />
The Consulting Team began the meeting with a summary of the previous Economic Development Focus Group and the<br />
Steering Committee’s comments. The team reviewed the community’s priorities and rankings and then asked the<br />
attendees to identify who should be involved in developing the programs and proceeding with initiatives (Community<br />
Collaborators), and who should lead the effort (Community Champion).<br />
