LUCY A. WALLING SCHOLARSHIP: Established by<br />

Mrs. Walling’s will for students majoring in the department<br />

of communication. Students with demonstrated financial<br />

need are given preference.<br />

SAM M. WALTON MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOL-<br />

ARSHIP: Established by the Paul Carter family in memory<br />

of Mr. Walton. Awards based on scholarship, capability,<br />

and reputation, with special consideration given to students<br />

from other countries.<br />

THE WALTON SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Established<br />

by Sam and Helen Walton of Bentonville, Ark., to provide<br />

full scholarships to students from Central America.<br />

MAMIE WATERS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP<br />

FUND: Established to honor the memory of a mother<br />

who desired only the best for her children and ensured her<br />

children attended a Christian college. Special preference<br />

will be given to applicants from the Southeast United States.<br />

GRACE WELLS SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Created by<br />

Grace G. Wells of Berkeley, Calif., a student at Galloway College,<br />

for deserving women.<br />

VELMA RUTH WEST SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Established<br />

by Dr. W.B. West, Jr., and friends, to honor the<br />

memory of Mrs. West for students showing unusual proficiency<br />

in Greek.<br />

LANNY G. WILDMAN MEMORIAL FUND: Established<br />

by the Shennan R. Wildman family of Moro, Ill., in<br />

memory of their son, Lanny, to assist a Bible major.<br />

BILL WILLIAMS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUND<br />

FOR FRESHMEN: Established in honor of the Professor<br />

Emeritus and former chairman of chemistry in order to provide<br />

financial assistance to incoming freshmen majoring<br />

in chemistry or biochemistry. Apply through the Department<br />

of Physical Science.<br />

BILL WILLIAMS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUND<br />

FOR SOPHOMORES: Established to honor Dr. Bill<br />

Williams by Mr. and Mrs. Mike White. Applicant should<br />

be a sophomore with a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0 with a<br />

chemistry or biochemistry major.<br />

WITT FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Established by<br />

Willis and Lois Witt of Houston for deserving students.<br />

DOROTHY S. WRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Created<br />

by Drs. Brian Alexander and Daniel Sears to honor Dr.<br />

Wright and to provide financial assistance for French or modern<br />

foreign language majors.<br />

WYNNE SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Provides up to one-half<br />

tuition and fees, room and board to needy students who live<br />

within a 25-mile radius of Wynne, Ark.<br />

TIMOTHY E. YATES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP<br />

FUND: For juniors and seniors majoring in math, computer<br />

science, biological science, or physical science with a<br />

GPA of 3.4 in their major and a cumulative GPA of 3.2.<br />

LOAN FUNDS<br />

Loan Funds are established for the specific purpose<br />

of providing financial aid to qualified students.<br />

Recipients are determined by the loan fund agreement<br />

through administrative personnel. In most cases<br />

these are short-term loans which are to be repaid during<br />

the semester they are awarded.<br />

SAMUEL ARRINGTON LOAN FUND: Established by<br />

Gervis J. Arrington of Stephens in memory of his grandfather.<br />

NEW LEAD BELT LOAN FUND: Established by Christians<br />

at Viburnum, Mo. Provides loans up to $300.<br />

DR. GEORGE S. BENSON STUDENT LOAN FUND:<br />

Established by the faculty in honor of Dr. Benson’s election<br />

as Arkansan of <strong>195</strong>3. Provides short-term loans to undergraduate<br />

students.<br />

CHARLES BRADLEY MEMORIAL LOAN FUND: Established<br />

in memory of C.L. Bradley of Searcy.<br />

PHYLLIS COOKE MEMORIAL LOAN FUND: Established<br />

by James R. Cooke in memory of his wife for needy<br />

family and consumer science majors, preferably majors in<br />

dietetics.<br />

CHUCK DEAN MEMORIAL LOAN FUND: Established<br />

by the family of Mr. Dean for worthy students.<br />

DURRINGTON LOAN FUND: Established by Victor<br />

Durrington for individuals who plan to work as church<br />

education directors.<br />

MR. AND MRS. JIM G. FERGUSON STUDENT<br />

LOAN FUND: For needy students who have done satisfactory<br />

work for at least one semester. The maximum loan is<br />

$150 per semester and $400 per student.<br />

JAMES FERNANDEZ LOAN FUND: Established by Mr.<br />

Fernandez. Applicants must be enrolled in the Graduate<br />

School of Religion, the School of Biblical Studies, or the<br />

undergraduate program majoring in Bible, Biblical languages<br />

or missions.<br />

MRS. MILDRED J. FERRELL LOAN FUND: Established<br />

by family and friends to provide assistance to worthy<br />

students.<br />

W.C. FRANCE STUDENT LOAN FUND: Established by<br />

Mrs. W.C. France to help needy students attend <strong>Harding</strong>.<br />

This loan must be repaid beginning at the time the baccalaureate<br />

degree is completed or the student ceases to be a student.<br />

A small amount of interest is charged.<br />

C.L. GANUS LOAN FUND: Established by C.L. Ganus,<br />

Sr., of New Orleans, La., for deserving students who could<br />

not otherwise attend college.<br />

CHARLES KENNETH AND MARIE SCHELL HAM-<br />

MON LOAN FUND: Established by Mrs. Charles Kenneth<br />

Hammon for juniors and seniors to borrow funds for school<br />

expenses and to repay the loan after graduation.<br />
