ENDOWMENT FUNDS<br />
Endowment Funds are those for which donors have<br />
stipulated that the principal of the fund is to remain inviolate<br />
in perpetuity and is to be invested for the purpose<br />
of producing income. The income may be expended<br />
only for the purpose specified by the donor.<br />
AMERICAN FOUNDERS ENDOWMENT: Established<br />
by the founders of the American Founders Insurance Company.<br />
Income is used for the general operation of the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
J.N. AND WOODSON HARDING ARMSTRONG<br />
MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT FUND: Established by<br />
Gertrude Paine Deese, niece of the Armstrongs, in their<br />
memory and honor. Income is used for the general operation<br />
of the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
JONATHAN EDWARD BEDWELL MEMORIAL EN-<br />
DOWMENT FUND: Established by family and friends of<br />
Jonathan Edward Bedwell, a student at <strong>Harding</strong> at the time<br />
of his death. Income is used for the general operation of the<br />
<strong>University</strong>.<br />
CLARK DAVID BELDEN ENDOWMENT FUND:<br />
Established by Lomanco, Inc. of Jacksonville, Ark., in memory<br />
of its founder, Clark David Belden. Income endows the<br />
Center for Private Enterprise Education.<br />
MURRAY AND FLOY BILLINGSLEY ENDOWMENT<br />
FUND: Established by Murray Billingsley to fund disbursements<br />
for Bible faculty to travel and study in the Holy<br />
Lands.<br />
RANDALL H. AND MARY BALES BRANNON EN-<br />
DOWMENT FUND: Established by the family in memory<br />
of Randall H. Brannon and in honor of Mary Bales<br />
Brannon. Income is used for the general operation of the<br />
<strong>University</strong>.<br />
KENNETH DAVIS JR. ENDOWMENT FUND: Established<br />
by friends of the long-time director of the A Cappella<br />
Chorus and chairman of the department of music. Income<br />
is used for special needs of the Department of Music.<br />
FACULTY SALARY ENDOWMENT FUND: Established<br />
by gifts from the Reader’s Digest. Income is applied to faculty<br />
salaries.<br />
FORD FOUNDATION ENDOWMENT: Established by<br />
the Ford Foundation in <strong>195</strong>6. Income is used for the general<br />
operation of the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
JULIA BELUE GAMMILL MEMORIAL ENDOW-<br />
MENT FUND: Established by family and friends in memory<br />
of Julia Belue Gammill. Income is used for the general<br />
operation of the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
HARRY R. KENDALL FUND: Established by Harry R.<br />
Kendall in <strong>195</strong>8 through a gift of stock. Income is divided<br />
between the American Studies Institute and faculty salaries.<br />
PEARL G. AND ANNA LEWIS MEMORIAL ENDOW-<br />
MENT FUND: Established in memory of W.C. and Anna<br />
Lewis. Income is used for the <strong>Harding</strong> Graduate School of<br />
Religion Library.<br />
F.D. AND MATTIE McNUTT ENDOWED FUND:<br />
Established by the family to honor their memory. Income<br />
is used to purchase equipment for the department of physical<br />
science.<br />
MARGARET PLUMMER RESEARCH ENDOWMENT<br />
FUND: Established by friends and family of Margaret<br />
Plummer and faculty in the Biology Department to provide<br />
funding for student research projects in biology.<br />
SUZANNE F. SPURRIER LIBRARY SPECIAL PRO-<br />
JECTS ENDOWMENT FUND: Established by the estate<br />
of Suzanne Spurrier to fund special projects, especially those<br />
unforeseen in the budgeting process, for Brackett Library.<br />
STEPHENS CENTER FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOP-<br />
MENT ENDOWMENT FUND: Established by Jack<br />
Stephens in conjunction with the American Studies Institute<br />
to fund a college scholarship program for students<br />
from the 17 delta counties of Arkansas.<br />
LAMBERT WALLACE ENDOWMENT FUND: Established<br />
in memory of Lambert Wallace. Income is used for<br />
the general operation of the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
NINA GRAYSON WARNOCK ENDOWMENT FUND:<br />
Established by her daughter and three granddaughters in<br />
memory of Nina Grayson Warnock, a former member of the<br />
<strong>Harding</strong> <strong>University</strong> Board of Trustees. Income is used for the<br />
general operation of the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
W.B. WEST JR., LECTURE ENDOWMENT FUND:<br />
Established in honor of W.B. West, Jr. Income is used to<br />
endow the annual <strong>Harding</strong> Graduate School of Religion<br />
Lectureship program.<br />
DR. THOMAS C. WHITFIELD SR. AND KATHLEEN<br />
WHITFIELD MEMORIAL FUND: Established by Dr.<br />
Thomas C. Whitfield Jr. and Dr. Jeff David Whitfield to provide<br />
operating funds for the College of Education.<br />
HELEN H. WILSON ENDOWMENT FUND: Established<br />
by Helen H. Wilson of Searcy. Income is used for the<br />
general operation of the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
ENDOWED CHAIR<br />
ROBERT ROY AND CALLIE MAE COONS CHAIR OF<br />
BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE: Established by Irma Coons<br />
Terpenning in honor of her parents, former professors and<br />
department heads at <strong>Harding</strong>. The chair provides the salary<br />
and expenses for one faculty member in the allied health<br />
sciences area, making funds available for personal library<br />
acquisitions, research, professional development and teaching<br />
aids.<br />
