Girls’ golf keeps sights on individual, team goals
Courtney
Staff Reporter
Girls’ golf always
makes sure they have a
team goal in mind. Head
Coach Tim Teegarden
said, “My goal is for the
girls to shoot as a team
under 200. The girls
know that is our goal
and we are getting closer
each year.”
Even though they
set out to accomplish
team goals, they also
have set personal goals as
well. Haenah Kim (‘15)
said, “My goal is to have
a much more consistent
score so I can become a
better contributor to the
team.”
Kim’s teammate
Kailee Keyser (‘14) also
had a personal goal in
mind. Keyser said, “My
goal for the season was
to break 60. Which I did!
My next goal is to break
50.”
Those goals also
contribute to achieving
their team goal. In order
to get a team score under
200 Teegarden stated,
“We need two girls to get
in the 40s and two girls
to get in the 50s.” He
also added, “The most
improved this year are
Haenah Kim, Kailee Keyser
and Hannah Brostoff
(’14).”
Girls’ golf is truly
a mental sport from
the moment you step on
the course. Keyser said,
“If you have a bad shot
or a bad hole, you feel
like the worst golfer out
there. But the next thing
you know, you shoot a
par on the next hole and
you feel like a pro.”
Kim added, “A lot of
people say golf is such
an easy sport because we
don’t have to run miles
every day or do conditioning.
But while other
sports depend on physicality,
golf depends on
your mental state.”
Golf is a great
sport but requires a lot of
commitment. Kim said,
“Coming home at nine
two or three times a week
to do homework isn’t
easy. It takes sheer determination
and love for
the sport.” The girl’s golf
team is always looking
for new committed players
to join their team.
Keyser said with
enthusiasm, “If you’re
thinking about joining
golf next year, you should
TOTALLY join! I’m not
going to sugar-coat it,
golf is a hard sport. But
if you’re willing to put
in the extra effort and
practice, then you’ll be
a better golfer. If you’re
that type of person, you
should definitely join the
girls’ golf team!”
to Peoria to practice for the
state meet, the point of going
to Peoria is to be successful
for the state meet,”
said Coach Kirk Macnider.
“We are very close
to the top teams at conference,
our conference is the
most competitive conference
in the state,” said Macnider.
“Every year our goal
is to qualify for the state,
meet we have qualified for
the last three years and expect
to do it again. Every
week, every race we are trying
to do the best that we
can, we can’t control other
teams,” said Coach.
“I am very pleased
with our growth and level of
maturity, every couple years
a new team takes over the
program and this is a new
generation, we’ve been very
successful this season we’ve
won the Oak Park Forest Invite
and we’ve earned trophies
at three other invites,
and we are currently ranked
in the top 25 in the state
which is something we are
very proud of,” stated Macnider
about the way he feels
about the team.
The team is very
proud of how far it has come
and will strive to improve.
