President’s Message

Society of America it is my
pleasure to welcome you to the
15th Annual Scientific Meeting.
The Program Committee, led
by Lynne W. Stevenson, Steven
Houser, and Barbara Riegel,
has put together a very exciting
and truly novel program, which
includes content that should
be of great interest to the
wide spectrum of attendees.
Whether you are a clinician or
researcher, physician, nurse,
pharmacist, or a trainee, this program will cover topics that will be
useful in your practice and work.
The program has been carefully planned to provide state-of-the-art
information about heart failure for the expert covering the entire field
from basic science to clinical practice. This year’s program includes
sessions on fundamental clinical topics, simultaneous symposia,
how-to sessions, rapid fire abstract sessions, debates, poster sessions,
and late-breaking clinical trials. Areas where there have been new
advances and topics, including controversial issues, are highlighted
as part of the program. Some of the sessions will focus on a benchto-bedside
approach; it is our hope that you will choose to attend
sessions out of your main areas of interest and benefit from this unique
aspect of our meeting which offers a broad view of what is happening
in heart failure. The Hyde Park session, an HFSA tradition, gives
the audience an opportunity sit back, relax, enjoy and laugh a little
while the presenters provide novel insights into important issues and
controversies in the care of heart failure patients.
We view our meeting’s success not only by the knowledge gained, but
also by the enjoyment that attendees have in gaining it. We hope you
find this year’s program to be informative and rewarding. As always
we welcome and encourage your feedback.
I hope you enjoy Boston, leave energized, and take home new ideas
that will enhance your professional goals. The 2012 Annual Scientific
Meeting will be held in Seattle, and we look forward to seeing you

About the HFSA
The Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA) represents the first
organized effort by heart failure experts from the Americas to provide
a forum for all those interested in heart failure research and patient care.
The HFSA is dedicated to:
Promoting research related to all aspects of heart failure and to provide
a forum for presentation of basic, clinical, and population-based research.
Educating health care professionals through programs, publications
and other media in the areas of basic science, clinical medicine, patient
management, and social, ethical and economic issues to enable them to
diagnose and treat heart failure and concomitant medical conditions more
effectively.
Encouraging primary and secondary preventive measures to reduce the
incidence of heart failure; to serve as a resource for government, private
industry, and health care providers to facilitate the establishment of
programs and policies that will better serve the patient.
Enhancing quality and duration of life in those with heart failure.
Promoting and facilitating the formal training of physicians, scientists,
and allied health care providers in the field of heart failure.
