• Demand Creation:
‣ Limited neonatal/infant VMMC is occurring in most SADC countries. Scaling
-up neonatal VMMC programmes is a simpler procedure and has less
complications (WHO & UNAIDS, 2007; WHO & UNAIDS, 2008;
Kebaabetswe et al., 2003) and a more effective HIV prevention intervention
‣ Government support and initiative for VMMC programmes is needed. An
evaluation study found that despite the acceptability of VMMC in half of the
SADC countries being high for both infants and men, the scale-up of VMMC
was relatively low because of a lack of governmental initiative to conduct
these programmes (Ramkissoon, Smit, Searle, Drace, Burns & Milford.,
2010).
