SADC countries’ programmes are making use of the following good practices: 1. Social mobilisation for VMMC promoting patient comfort at VMMC site 2. Providing pre- and post-procedure counselling 3. Using safe and hygienic methods, and 4. Completing the procedure at the minimal cost to the patient.
However, SADC VMMC programmes are constrained in: 1. Providing clarity on the procedure to patients and information on risk compensation 2. Advertising at community sites and schools 3. Soliciting support of women in VMMC roll-out activities 4. Providing better infrastructure and trained staff 5. Greater use of hospitals as VMMC sites and 6. Having reminders/advice provided to patients away from the VMMC site post-procedure.
