DISTRICT NUTRITIONIST
A. Administrative
1. Set goals for the district activities for the year
2. Coordinate tasks with the intersectoral team
3. Regularly convene formal personnel meetings
4. Compile quarterly district reports and send copy to Provincial Office
5. Represent Nutritional Component at District Management Meetings
6. Draw up district budget according to needs
7. Countercheck monthly expenditure
8. Identify and coordinate training needs for personnel
9. Monitor and evaluate personnel activities.
B. Information Gathering and Nutritional Surveillance
1. Establish and maintain a district nutritional surveillance system
2. Regular monitoring of the nutritional surveillance system in the district
3. Facilitate community - based nutritional surveillance
4. Training of personnel, including nutrition advisors, community health workers,
fieldworkers, NGO’s, etc.
5. Participate in surveys as needed.
C. Health Facility-Based Nutrition Programme
C1. Protein Energy Malnutrition Scheme
1. Identify clinics and community centres to partake in the scheme using data collected
through surveillance.
2. Draw up a screening schedule for participants, in conjunction with clinic personnel and
NGO’s.
3. Incorporate and strengthen nutrition education - develop relevant nutrition education
activities, according to the needs of the district.
4. Train all personnel working in the scheme
5. Monitor and evaluate the scheme
6. Liase with PHC nurses regarding the implementation of the scheme.
C2. Therapeutic Nutrition and Foodservice Systems
Give support to hospitals on therapeutic nutrition and foodservice systems.
