Some observations of children <strong>and</strong> young adult<br />

students then (10 years ago) <strong>and</strong> now:<br />

• Shorter attention span<br />

• Intellectually advanced but<br />

undeveloped socio-emotionally<br />

• Speaks out <strong>for</strong> the self <strong>and</strong> its needs<br />

• Less tolerance <strong>for</strong> ambiguity <strong>and</strong><br />

uncerta<strong>in</strong>ty<br />

• More affected by failures <strong>and</strong> disappo<strong>in</strong>tments<br />

• Prone to anxiety, depression, <strong>and</strong> suicidal ideas<br />

characteristics of “selfie”<br />

• misguided parent<strong>in</strong>g (too protective or<br />

absentee, <strong>in</strong>different; guilt that <strong>in</strong>dulges; n<strong>in</strong>o<br />
