• Mt. Bukhansan National Park Mt. Bukhansan, situated in the northern part of Seoul, is 78.45km wide, and the sharp peaks provide contrast to dozens of valleys and rivers flowing below. The granite peaks blend in well with trees, and there are about 1,300 kinds of animal and plant life living on the mountain. When you stand on Baekundae and look down on a clear day, you can see Seoul, Hangang River, and Yellow Sea all together. In the spring, all kinds of flowers bloom, and in the summer, thick forest and valleys spread out. Hiking path along the valley is perhaps the best summer mountain climbing course. The fall is an especially fit time for visiting temples and pavilions in their autumn colors. In the winter, the snow-covered mountain scenery is very beautiful. • Korean Folk Village Korean Folk Village is located 30 minutes by car from the venue and recreates the daily life of the Korean life in the latter days of the Joseon Period. Here, they rebuilt the class system culture and living standards of those days, including 260 traditional houses, and 30,000 folk artifacts on display. The Folk Village is composed of the Folk Scenery District, which deals with recreating and displaying relevant folk artifacts and folk cultural treasures, Exhibit District, which deals with exhibiting cultural treasures and folk artifacts, and “Jangteo Gongbanggeori,” which deals with traditional foods, souvenirs, and pottery shows. - 25 -
7) Satellite Conferences • Satellite conferences will be held in China and Japan before and after the main Congress. The catalysis societies of the two countries will be approached to arrange the pre- and/or the post-Congress Symposia. • We are also planning to hold a pre-Congress symposium in Daejeon and/or a post-Congress symposium in Gyeongju. The topics of symposia will be decided after considering the general interest of the participants, and most of the speakers (or lecturers) will be invited on the basis of their expertise in catalysis. - 26 -
