Accompanying person’s program The following programs will be offered to accompanying persons at small service fee. • This village has restored five traditional Korean houses, with a pavilion, a pond and a time capsule, which makes it a nice place for a promenade. When you enter the front gate, you will see the vast valley and the Chunugak to the left of the pond. Along with the pond, it is a splendid place where performances are held. On the side you will see five traditional houses. These houses were rebuilt after the traditional houses of Joseon dynasty. The houses belong to various social ranks of the society from the common peasant to the king. Furniture that suited the owner of the house is displayed inside to help you to understand the daily life of the past. The other thing you should not miss is the traditional marriage ceremony. About 30 minutes by bus from the venue. • Ceramic art is one of the major contributions made by Koreans to the mankind’s artistic heritage. The ceramic art reached its zenith during the Goryeo Dynasty (935-1392 AD), culminating in the world famous celadon in the late eleventh to early twelfth century. Icheon, located about 30 km south of Seoul, is a well-known potters’ village with over 80 active kilns where the Goryeo celadon and the white porcelain of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) are reproduced by hand. A number of master potters designated “human cultural assets,” the highest honor accorded to living craftsmen by the government, are in residence. Icheon boasts a ceramic museum, the only one of its kind in the nation, and many kilns are open where public can view the pottery-making process. - 38 -
