‣ Co-operating with the client on establishing location, or well specific, significant adverse<br />
environmental impact criteria.<br />
‣ Reviewing the MODU or Rig environmental aspects against the site specific criteria and<br />
highlight those that may result in a significant adverse environmental impact.<br />
What in the Drilling Contractor’s Management System demonstrates assurance to internal<br />
and external stakeholders that this objective can be achieved?<br />
‣ Confirmation that environmental policies, objectives and targets are clearly defined<br />
either as part of the organisation’s integrated <strong>HSE</strong> policies and objective statements, or<br />
as separate documents.<br />
‣ Confirmation that the <strong>HSE</strong> management processes and documentation shared between<br />
the Drilling Contractor and the client take account of the environment.<br />
‣ Details of any environmental specific management processes and programmes.<br />
‣ Reference to the MODU or Rig environmental aspects registers - (See Part 4 Risk<br />
Management).<br />
‣ Arrangements for liaising with the client for:<br />
- identifying the nature and sensitivities of the location specific receiving environment<br />
- establishing location specific significant adverse impact criteria<br />
- reviewing the MODU or Rig and well specific aspects against the established criteria<br />
2.3.6.1 Environmental Protection<br />
Objective<br />
To demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies and standards in<br />
relation to the aspects (hazards) and impacts (risks) of environmental protection.<br />
How this can be achieved?<br />
‣ Identifying regulatory requirements.<br />
‣ Development of standard environmental protection methods.<br />
‣ Identifying environmental protection opportunities (including procurement options).<br />
‣ Evaluating environmental protection options.<br />
‣ Developing and implementing location and well specific environmental protection plans.<br />
‣ By establishing processes to review and update the plan.<br />
What in the Drilling Contractor’s Management System demonstrates assurance to internal<br />

‣ Details of the Drilling Contractor’s environmental protection policies and objectives.<br />
‣ Details of the environmental protection plan.<br />
2.3.6.2 Management of Waste<br />
Objective<br />
To demonstrate compliance with legal requirements, company policies and standards in<br />
relation to the environmental aspects (hazards) and impacts (risks) of waste management.<br />
How this can be achieved?<br />
‣ Identifying regulatory requirements.<br />
‣ Development of standard waste tracking methods.<br />
‣ Identifying waste minimization opportunities (including procurement options).<br />
‣ Evaluating waste management and disposal options.<br />
‣ Developing and implementing location and well specific waste management plans in<br />
cooperation with the client.<br />
