“Since winning the scholarship they
have featured me in the newsletter at
work, and doors are really opening up. I
have also been given the opportunity to
do a rotational program in Front Office
ICE
BREAKER
College Social Life
By Sasha Zavadskaya
Another Icebreaker has come our way! With
our great SRC team that helped to organise, it
was another fun night out.
It was great to see true college spirit to those
who come out and enjoyed a few drinks. Even
though a smaller term, we all were driven on
the ready-to-go busses down to manly,
exploring Sable Bar first and continued our
night at the New Brighton Hotel.
For those students who managed to survive
Icebreaker, we organised Feel The B@ss party.
This Round TWO started at the B@ssment,
playing pool, having couple of drinks and
rocking at the dancefloor. After we went down
to finish our night at Shark Bar.
DON’T miss our
upcoming parties!
Manly-Warringah Competition.
Headed by Captain Kirralee Glass and Vice-
Captain Sarah Ieroianni, the team of ten (10)
girls have won four (4) of five (5) games they
have played, currently standing at Fourth (4 th )
Whether living on campus, at home with family, or exploring
the untold mysteries of shared living... Money is unmistakably
short for college students. With this being said, at this stage in
our adult lives socialising has become paramount and we find
ourselves often sacrificing activities due to empty wallets. Well
this is where I come in. In an attempt to explore Manly myself,
I will research and review affordable restaurants, cafes and
bars so that you, my fellow students may avoid the hazards of
pretentious and overly priced meals, making you seriously
consider starvation as an alternative!
Ambience:
This week I stumbled across ‘Mortar and Pestle’ a small Thai
restaurant positioned neatly on Darley Rd, a stones throw from
The Corso. Simple and contemporary furnishings stray from
the usual ‘holiday in Thailand vibe’ creating a relaxing and
intimate atmosphere. With young couples and small families
occupying the restaurant I am at least assured of the general
public’s appreciation for Thai cuisine. Closely armed with two
friends we are seated at a small table near the back. The tables
are positioned quite close together making any personal
conversations impractical with our neighbours dining so close.
The menu provides an array of exotic and somewhat familiar
meal options, all with a full list of ingredients to make the
selection process easier. After glancing at the photos also
provided in the menu; I selected my favourite ‘Chicken Pad
Thai’ and we call over the waitress waiting patiently to the side.
After a very frustrating conversation, we are led to believe our
meals are being prepared. Apart from also being casually
dressed and without a uniform, the staff (with whom English is
their second language) struggled to take our order. After
another 10 minute exchange we have our drink order (3 soft
drinks) set.
Although ordering was slightly awkward and challenging, the
food was prepared almost instantly! After a quiet moment to
ourselves to comment on the experience this far, the meals
began being delivered (separately, which was also slightly
annoying). Once we were all served our meals and finished
convincing the waitress no additional extras were required we
ventured to taste our selections. My meal was delicious!
Perhaps containing a little bit more egg then necessary; but
delightful all the same! The large portions left us taking home
extras for lunch the next day, which wasn’t bad for a meal
under $20. I therefore strongly encourage you all to go and
check it out if you haven’t already. Although the service left
something to be desired, it provides a cheap meal and an
entertaining night for an intimate gathering of friends.
Shop 8,
Manly, NSW, 2095
Mint Shop was founded as a men's and women's
boutique in the NSW Northern Beaches suburb of
Manly.
Mint Shop quickly became a household name in the
local area and grew quickly with popularity. It was
not before long that word spread and saw customers
traveling great distances to shop at Mint.
From recognition of this Mint Shop Online was born.
It was created as an extension of the Mint Shop
boutique to make shopping easier for our customers
that (or want to but cannot) travel far and wide to
shop with us.
