communication. The University follows a multi-media approach for instruction. So, the<br />
instructional system of PGCAE of <strong>IGNOU</strong> also follows multi-media approach i.e. selfinstructional<br />
print material, audio-video programmes, assignments, face-to-face counselling<br />
sessions / contact sessions, practical work, teleconferencing and Interactive Radio Counselling,<br />
among others.<br />
3.1 Self-instructional Print Material<br />
The print material is written in self-instructional style. It is in the form of Blocks (booklets)<br />
specially prepared for theory and practical courses of the programme. Each course has a specific<br />
code number assigned to it. It is supplied to each learner along with a set of assignment questions.<br />
The learner has to complete the required assignments related to each course. Each course may<br />
have 3-5 Blocks and each block may have 3-6 Units in general. The printed material for practical<br />
course of the programme is available in the form one booklet, “Student’s Handbook for Practical<br />
Work”.<br />
3.2 Audio-video Programmes<br />
The learning package also contains audio-video programmes which are produced by the University<br />
for clarification, supplementing and enhancement of understanding of the course material given<br />
to the student. These programmes are normally of 25-30 minutes duration. Some programmes<br />
depending upon the need may be upto one hour duration. These are used at the Programme<br />
Study Centres during counselling sessions which are duly scheduled and notified by the<br />
Programme In-charge/Co-ordinator of Programme Study Centre for the benefit of the students.<br />
While the audio programmes are yet to be developed, following are the titles of video programmes<br />
made for PGCAE programme. 1. Adult Education: The Basic Concept, Objectives and Features<br />
(MAE-001 – 41mts/58secs), 2. Concept, Scope and Features of Distance Education (MAE-001<br />
– 41mts/12Secs), 3. Philosophy and Sociology of Lifelong Learning (MAE-001 – 30 mts/7secs),<br />
4. Role of Information and Communication Technology in Lifelong Learning (MAE-001 – 30mts/<br />
11secs), 5. Participatory Research (MAE-002 – 44mts/23secs), 6. Creating a Literate<br />
Environment (MAE-002 – 25mts/7secs). The video programmes are also telecast on National<br />
Network and enrichment channel of Doordarshan. Similarly, the audio programmes when<br />
produced are also broadcast by the selected stations of All India Radio. Learners can confirm the<br />
dates of the programmes from their Study Centres. The information is also provided through the<br />
National Newspapers and <strong>IGNOU</strong> Newsletter sent to the students periodically.<br />
3.3 Assignments<br />
Assignments are an integral and compulsory component of the instructional system. There is<br />
one tutor-marked assignment for each theory course. Students will have to work on these<br />
assignments. Each student should go through the relevant details given about assignments in<br />
this Programme Guide and submit the assignment responses to the Coordinator/Programme Incharge<br />
of the Programme Study Centre in accordance with the given assignments’ submission<br />
schedule.<br />
There will be one assignment for each course. The assignment will have questions of three types<br />
as follows.<br />
i) Question requiring long/essay type answer.<br />
