We Need Mock Drill:<br />

1. To inculcate a culture of preparedness<br />

2. To examine the plans <strong>and</strong> SOPs of identified stakeholders<br />

3. To evaluate the resource status of various departments<br />

4. To coordinate the activities of various agencies for their optimum utilization<br />

5. To use the feedback to identify the gaps <strong>and</strong> improve the resource capabilities to face actual<br />

disasters<br />

Objectives of Drill are to:<br />

Review <strong>Disaster</strong> Management Plan of the state<br />

Evaluate the Emergency Response Plan <strong>and</strong> St<strong>and</strong>ard Operating Procedures of the<br />

Industry/District/s selected for Mock Exercise<br />

Highlight the roles <strong>and</strong> responsibilities of various stakeholders<br />

Enhance coordination among emergency support functions of various stakeholders at district<br />

level<br />

Generate public awareness by involvement of local government, NGOs <strong>and</strong> public.<br />

Identify the gaps in resources, manpower <strong>and</strong> communications<br />

The NDMA is coordinating mock exercises<br />

in the states in order to prepare the state<br />

governments <strong>and</strong> other stakeholder groups<br />

for efficient response. These drills are<br />

integral to training in disaster<br />

management, as they emphasize <strong>and</strong><br />

ensure the coordination aspects in disaster<br />

management. One of the major areas of<br />

success has been the creation of disaster<br />

management facilities within industries<br />

<strong>and</strong> emphasis on off-site evacuation plans.<br />

A Search <strong>and</strong> Rescue Team of NDRF<br />

Mock Exercise Floods – Chhattisgarh, 29 June, 2009<br />

Battalion Pune, in association with<br />

Municipal Corporation of Greater<br />

Mumbai participated in a Mock Exercise on Urban Flooding in April 2010. It<br />

demonstrated methods of rescue of trapped victims.<br />

A Search <strong>and</strong> Rescue (SAR) Team of NDRF Batallion Greater Noida participated in<br />

table top <strong>and</strong> mock exercise on Chemical (Industrial) disaster in Indian Oil Corporation,<br />

Panipat Refinery in May 2010. The NDRF Personnel carried out Search <strong>and</strong> Rescue,<br />
