focus specifically on sustainable tourism, in harmony with nature,
with a range of artistic,cultural and scientific landmarks for our guests
to discover. In his lyrical poem “Der Ilme” (The River Ilm) Goethe describes
the river’s calm, meandering progress through the valley,halfhidden
by the boughs and willows which overhang it, and his elation
as the “gleam of dawn’s red flush rests upon its placid waves“. What
better way to capture the very essence of this haven of tranquillity?
For a perspective other than nature and the arts, traditional festivals
offer an insight into various strands of the Weimarer Land region’s
history. Every year, thousands of visitors enjoy Weimar’s Arts Festival
and Onion Market, Apolda’s Fashion Night, the Thuringian wine festival
in Bad Sulza, and Kranichfeld’s Festival of Dance and Roses, to
name but a few.
