Support Division Information • Investigations Unit The Investigations Unit began fulltime use of an automated evidence tracking system. There were 227 cases assigned to the investigations unit. • Portable X-Ray Scan-X A portable state of the art x-ray system was purchased to replace aging RTR unit. Implementing technology that bomb squads nationwide use, has resulted in reduced overtime expense by reducing off-duty K-9 call outs. Minimal set up time reduces delays to airport customers. 29 officers are currently trained to operate the system. • The Community Liaison Office Remained vacant for <strong>2009</strong> The events, ceremonies and tasks normally handled by this office were disseminated to various individuals. Some of the events and/or ceremonies included: • The Annual Plane Pull for Special Olympics. • The bi-annual awards ceremony. • The 9/11 ceremony. • The Veteran’s Day tribute • The painting of a snowblade with McClelland Elementary School. • Training Unit In <strong>2009</strong>, the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy mandated that all certified police officers receive a minimum of two hours training in emergency vehicle operations. Our department took an innovative approach by leasing a simulator programmed with a wide variety of driving scenarios. Three of our certified instructors provided training on the simulator around the clock insuring no overtime expense and full coverage of duties. • Responsibilities include the scheduling of all training and classes for the officers • Oversee the department training officers • Record keeping of all training matters • Training topics include, but not limited to: Basic Academy (ILEA) Firearms Defensive Tactics Emergency Vehicle Operations First aid/CPR Domestic Violence Any state mandated training Any federally mandated training • The department accrued 5.961 hours training. 25
