After making further enquiries within the department I can confirm that two US B 1 Strategic Bomber aircraft were authorised by UK MoD to conduct training flights in the North Yorkshire area on 16'h October 2000. It is therefore possible that it was one of these aircraft that you observed on the night in question. I hope this is helpful.
