101 - COLLEGE READING AND COMPOSITION I<br />
(UC:CSU) - 3.00 UNITS<br />
Prerequisite: English 28, or ESL 8 with a grade of “C” or better, or<br />
appropriate skill level demonstrated through the English assessment<br />
process, or by permit.<br />
This is the fi rst freshman composition course that meets requirements<br />
for the BA at four-year colleges and universities, comprising intensive<br />
reading, writing of essays, term papers, the study of style, methods of<br />
discourse, logic, and documentation.<br />

240 - LITERATURE AND THE MOTION PICTURE I<br />
(UC:CSU) - 3.00 UNITS<br />
Prerequisite: English 101 with a grade of “C” or better, or by permit.<br />
English 240 is a comparative course in literature and the motion picture.<br />
Stress is placed on viewing feature, documentary, short subjects,<br />
animated, and experimental fi lms, along with reading literary sources<br />
(short stories, novels, and plays) and related critical reviews.<br />
