that he/she must complete specific requirements<br />
appropriate to his/her first major.<br />
Application for Admission<br />
to Minor Program of Study<br />
Students wishing to pursue a minor should<br />
apply for admission to the minor by filing<br />
the <strong>Undergraduate</strong> Declaration of Minor<br />
form at the <strong>University</strong> Advisement Center<br />
or in the minor program department.<br />
Degree Requirements<br />
To be eligible for graduation from <strong>New</strong><br />
<strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>University</strong> with the degree<br />
of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science,<br />
Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music, or<br />
Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a student<br />
must fulfill the following requirements:<br />
1. Completion of a minimum of 128 credits<br />
of baccalaureate study at the 100-level<br />
or higher;<br />
2. Attainment of a minimum CGPA 2.0<br />
(i.e., “C” average);<br />
3. Completion of a minimum of 32 credits<br />
at <strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>University</strong>;<br />
4. Completion of a course of study leading<br />
to the bachelor’s degree, which includes:<br />
A. The <strong>University</strong>’s General Studies<br />
Program requirements, currently<br />
eighteen credits of the All-<strong>University</strong><br />
Requirement (AUR) courses and up to<br />
forty-eight credits of General Studies<br />
Program area electives, in accordance<br />
with the six area requirements;<br />
B. At least 36 credits in an approved<br />
major, as outlined in the catalog by the<br />
department offering the major, and<br />
achieve of a CGPA of 2.0 or higher in<br />
the major;<br />
C. A recommendation for graduation by<br />
the faculty of the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
Note: Academic Foundations Courses—<br />
Students admitted to <strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> who require coursework to<br />
prepare them for college-level courses in<br />
English, Reading, and/or Mathematics are<br />
required to take certain Academic Foundations<br />
courses numbered below 100. Some<br />
of these Academic Foundations courses<br />
also have credit-bearing components. The<br />
credits earned in those components are<br />
counted toward the 128 credits required<br />
for graduation with a bachelor’s degree, and<br />
those credits and the grades earned in those<br />
components are included in the calculation<br />
of the cumulative grade point average.<br />
Second Major after Graduation<br />
A graduate of <strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
or another higher education institution accredited<br />
by an American accrediting agency<br />
may register for additional undergraduate<br />
study to pursue an additional, approved<br />
undergraduate major. The student must<br />
be formally admitted to the <strong>University</strong> and<br />
approved for the major by the Academic<br />
Advisement Office and the respective department.<br />
The requirements for completion<br />
of each major are specified by the individual<br />
departments, and the student must maintain<br />
a minimum CGPA of 2.0.<br />
Satisfactory completion of the additional<br />
major is noted on the student’s permanent<br />
record, based on endorsement by the major<br />
department.<br />
Second Baccalaureate Degree<br />
ADMISSION TO DEGREE PROGRAM<br />
A candidate with a bachelor’s degree from<br />
a college recognized by an American accrediting<br />
agency may apply for admission<br />
to <strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>University</strong> for a second<br />
baccalaureate degree.<br />
DEGREE REQUIREMENTS<br />
A second baccalaureate degree may be<br />
earned by meeting all of the following<br />
requirements:<br />
1. A minimum of 36 credits in residence<br />
toward the new degree (32 credits if<br />
the first bachelor’s degree is from <strong>New</strong><br />
<strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>University</strong>); Note: Individual<br />
departments and special programs, such<br />
as Nursing, Business Administration, and<br />
others, may require more credits.<br />
2. Completion of an approved major<br />
program, as determined and evaluated by<br />
the major program department. Credits<br />
earned at each institution previously<br />
attended are evaluated for applicability<br />
to the new degree by the department<br />
chairperson;<br />
3. AUR and General Studies Program<br />
Requirements:<br />
a. For a graduate of <strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> or another institution recognized<br />
by American accrediting agencies,<br />
the record(s) is accepted as having<br />
satisfied <strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
AUR and General Studies Program<br />
area requirements;<br />
b. For a graduate of a foreign or a nonaccredited<br />
American institution, the<br />
record is evaluated by appropriate<br />
evaluating agencies, including departmental<br />
evaluations, on a course-bycourse<br />
basis for applicability to the<br />
degree. The Transfer Evaluator in the<br />
<strong>University</strong> Advisement Center determines<br />
the accreditation status of the<br />
institution(s) previously attended and<br />
the appropriate evaluating agencies<br />
and procedures.<br />
A graduate of a foreign or non-accredited<br />
American higher education institution who<br />
has not completed courses that satisfy the<br />
AUR and General Studies Program area<br />
requirements, as evaluated by the <strong>University</strong><br />
Advisement Center and/or appropriate<br />
department(s), is required to complete<br />
this work to receive a second baccalaureate<br />
degree;<br />
4. Completion of a minimum of 128<br />
credits, including total credits transferred<br />
from the institution(s) attended;<br />
5. Attainment of a final CGPA of 2.0.<br />
Graduation and<br />
Certification Applications<br />
A senior eligible for graduation/certification<br />
must complete the Intent to Graduate<br />
card and the Application for Graduation<br />
form (and, if applicable, the Application for<br />
Certification form) at the Registrar’s Office,<br />
Hepburn Hall, Rm. 214, on or before the<br />
following dates:<br />
1. December 15 for a student expecting to<br />
complete all requirements by the end of<br />
the spring semester;<br />
2. June 15 for a student expecting to complete<br />
all requirements by the end of either<br />
summer session I or II;<br />
3. September 30 for a student expecting to<br />
complete all requirements by the end of<br />
the fall semester.<br />
Students who are denied graduation<br />
clearance in a Spring semester because of<br />
6 or fewer missing credits are eligible to<br />
participate in Commencement proceedings<br />
upon registering for adequate summersession<br />
courses to complete their program<br />
requirements.<br />
Advanced Standing for Transfer<br />
Credit or Credit by Examination<br />
A student entering <strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
may be granted advanced standing<br />
on the basis of either credit for study at
